Can’t gerrymander a Senate seat. A State is a State.True, but in actuality perhaps not completely true. Due to gerrymandering, the voting districts for many House and Senate seats have been set up to always be "safe" for one of the two parties. Both Republicans and Democrats have historically been complicit in this practice. It's a big reason why such a high percentage of incumbents are returned to office --- they almost can't lose.
And you would certainly be right about that. Can’t gerrymander a Senate seat. A State is a State.
Can’t gerrymander a Senate seat. A State is a State.
Can’t gerrymander a Senate seat. A State is a State.
I was helping my daughter study for a test on that. in the constitutional convention, VA wanted to have a rep for every X number of people. The little state knew they were screwed so came up with the New Jersey plan which called for each state having one or two reps. They compromised with a bicameral legislature of both a house of representatives and a senate with two senators per state. Why? In the end, it is the only way to assure both majority power and minority power (in unity). Can’t gerrymander a Senate seat. A State is a State.
It sucks because no matter what age or experience, she will be missed. She was a legal scholar and a pioneer for human rights-not just for women. When great scholars pass away - it sucks. Why does it suck? She had a long, full life. Can’t live forever.
Maybe everyone should have a term limit in their job. We need some younger employees running Microsoft, Boing, Tesla, McDonalds, GM. etc. Get rid of the old timers after 25 years on the job.Agree. Term limits is long overdue
yeah....well, RBG was 87 and what you are suggesting is also known as "age discrimination".Maybe everyone should have a term limit in their job. We need some younger employees running Microsoft, Boing, Tesla, McDonalds, GM. etc. Get rid of the old timers after 25 years on the job.
Absolutely true, regardless of whether it has 39,000,000 people or 600,000. Unless you're Washington DC or Puerto Rico.
Yes. And that limit should be like 6 months!!!!No disrespect to RBG but IMO it's silly that it's a lifetime appointment and as a result some say on as long as they can. Make it 25 years. That's enough for anyone. And while you're at it, put the same limit on the amount of time people can be in Congress.
Yawn.It sucks because no matter what age or experience, she will be missed. She was a legal scholar and a pioneer for human rights-not just for women. When great scholars pass away - it sucks.
Just saw this and was going to start a new thread on it. You should do so as this is a big story.
"Couric called a friend, David Brooks, a New York Times journalist, who advised her that Ginsburg probably didn't understand the question, even though she was still serving on the Supreme Court at the time."

I’m fine, thank you… just not buying the purported definition that was meant. If you always look to be outraged then you will always be outraged. Take a chill pill, St. Francis.
Okay. Look, I assure you the definition I posted was sincere. It was probably not the best choice of words to use on my part. I don't mind correcting it just to avoid further speculation and further deflection from the topic.I’m fine, thank you… just not buying the purported definition that was meant.
