The Indiana men's basketball family is devastated to learn of the passing of 1987 National Champion Daryl Thomas. Our prayers go out to his family, friends, teammates and coaches and all others who he had an impact on throughout his life.
A native of Westchester, Illinois, Thomas scored 1,095 points in his career at IU, averaging 10.3 points per game. He scored 20 points in his final collegiate game, the 1987 national championship against Syracuse, including an assist on Keith Smart's basket that gave the Hoosiers the title.
Thomas averaged 14.5 points a game as a junior and 15.7 points as a senior, earning All-Big Ten honors both seasons.
He has served as the head basketball coach at Montini Catholic High School in Lombard, Illinois since 2015.
