Same old play calling- short slants and hitches, nothing downfield...

Hack did have one long completed pass yesterday. Maybe the short game is what is needed with a limited offensive line. He made some nice short passes for first downs and the touchdown.

Same old same old--board gurus bitching about slants when Hack...

...has no time to setup downfield routes.

it's called utilizing the personnel you've got

If we tried to set up long downfield plays with our current personnel and got sacked repeatedly, you'd be on here bitching about how we need to have quicker routes.

You don't miss the deep fly pattern where our QB throws it out of bounds?

That was a staple on 3rd and 7 for years. Followed up by a punt.

Last year we saw a lot of screens and quick outs, not many slants into the middle. I think slants over the middle and post patterns are what Hack likes and what the offense needs.

Absolutely!

It would be a refreshing change of pace at this stage.

I Think It Was Stevens That Executed That Once Perfectly Yesterday!

Long sideline route / throw going towards the student end of the stadium, receiver about two inches in-bounds, ball hitting about five yards out-of-bounds at about the 20 yard line, press box side of the field.

Couldn't believe we didn't get a replay of it.....

Disappointing They Didn't Roll Hack Out - That's Got To Help The OL Some!

If they did roll him out, I must have blinked and missed it.

For a kid who could still be in high school. Sunshine looked good.

A faster WR may have caught that ball.

And you think how about this. You either know or are making suppositions; however, you are not thinking.

As long as we have the same old OL performance we will have the same WR

routes. Our QB's don't have the time to look for and execute longer routes. And yesterday was the same old OL performance.

And for the QB's other than Hack the short routes are the easiest to execute. The young kids need to execute and have some success to build on. Not try and complete deeper routes behind a shaky OL and get sacked every play.

You don't open up a playbook in the spring game...

Opposing teams scout spring tape so any new wrinkles or tendencies are foolish to put in

but there was no shortage of Vanderbilt gimmicks yesterday. They showed a

Clip of Herb Hand coaching the OL. It looked more like a quasi-chef trying to extinguish a grease fire on a flat top.

5-7

It was a glorified practice which doesn't count in the B1G standings. Relax. The coaches are more concerned with working on areas which they feel need improvement than they are with putting on a show for the fans.
