Feel for Sammy.

You have a guy like Pat Glory, who I’m a big fan of now, have the fortunate luck of having one of the biggest upsets of all time clear his path for a title.

Nico Bonocorssi had to wrestle a guy Gavin Hoffman beat last year for his title.

Nathan Tomasello once won his title matched up against Zeke Moisely to win his.

And then you have a guy like Sammy Sasso, who has had to wrestle a now 2 time national champ in O’Connor, and a now 4 timer in Yianni, in 3 of his national tournaments.

Sucks for some guys who fall victim to the luck of the draw.

Oh btw…. Congratulations guys.

Not like it wasn’t expected, but as always…. Credit where credits due.

You guys are in rarefied air.

Wow. I thought he was done

I’d like to see him win one as long as it’s not a Penn states expense
Since Van Ness will be at 149 and Levi at 157 I do not wish to see Sammy win one. I rather hope when it is all said and done it will be said about Sasso, his 3 NCAA finals losses were to 2 timer O'Connor, 3 timer Van Ness and 4 timer Diakomihalis.

Sasso was so close on at least one exchange. Just ran into a 3 time champ, now 4 time. He wrestled well. OSU lineup next year will be interesting. They have some tough decisions to make. Heck Penn State does too with the possible Olympic redshirts and such.

Interesting stat. The top 3 highest team point scorers where 285.
Hendrickson 21.5
Parris 19.5
Kerk 19 tied with 3 other wrestlers

Paris had 23.5 team points scored.
Hendrickson 21.5
Kerkvliet had 19
Cassioppi had 14.5
Davidson 10

Not sure if I missed something there.

Austin Gomez announced he will be back for his 7th year on Twitter tonight lol. So he’ll be right there at 149 too if healthy.

149 is interesting next year. Yianni's gone, but I think you'll have a couple back that missed this year (or Gomez who ended up getting hurt and maybe not wrestling as well at tournament time as he would have liked). You also have Van Ness who appears to have turned into a monster over the last several days. I'd pick Van Ness if I was laying bets today on who would win the 149 title in 2024. It was also interesting this year because you had Gomez thump Yianni early, then Van Ness really put a scare into him (not to mention Sasso hanging around and having a legit shot late to tie it up late last night).

It’s true that the waters part in some tournaments. On the other hand, when you are one of the top guys, the only people you end up losing to are…..champions. ;)

Fix lost to multiple time champions because Fix himself is the runner up that builds the number of championships.

Dont think those scores include the finals results

Carter was the top scorer in tournament after his WBF in the finals

I thought and still believe Sammy got the TD over O’Connor.

No - the Club site just didn’t update yet. Think about it… all champs get 20 tournament point just for winning (16 placement plus 4 advancement). Doesn’t even include any bonus.

Starocci was the tournament’s top point scorer.

I like Gomez a lot but no way will he be as good next year. He's been beat up and the toll another season of college wrestling takes on his body is gonna be brutal. At best I see him as a 5/6 guy next year.

We do a draft where you can only draft one guy at each seed. Only one #1, one #2 and so forth. My draft went well when I left conventional wisdom and took C* as my #1, O'Toole as #2 and Brooks as my #3. Many had spencer as #1 and Fix as a #2. Almost all of us had Dean as a #9. Anyhow my draft did well. Bartlett as my #6 did well. I should have taken SVN as my #10 or above. Nagao as a #8 did well. I it a fun way to do a pick draft. Where you can't actually be there to draft. Being a PSU homer was a good thing.
