Saquon puts the Birds on the Board!

Should have caught it but throwing the ball there is just plain dumb. Stuff happens and it did. Barkley probably catches that 99 out of 100 times but the one exists for a reason. Stuff happens. Run the damn ball and win the game.
The best possible outcome for Atlanta on that play was an incomplete pass. Why give them a chance at that outcome.
Barkley went into the huddle and said ‘My college coach would throw a pass in the flats here! So they did!

IIRC the Falcons took over with 1:40 remaining and scored with 0:40 remaining. So if the Eagles ran the ball they would have consumed another 40 seconds leaving the Falcons with the same minute they took to score a TD.

Bottom line is it wasn't such a bad call. Saquon or any RB could have just as easily fumbled the handoff on a running play. Saquon dropped an easy pass and that's on him. The defense allowed the Falcons to go 75 yards for a TD in roughly 1 minute. That's on them. There are 16 games and this is just one that the Eagles screwed the pooch.

Agreed. If they ran the ball the falcons would have called timeout burning one of their TOs but since they scored with :32 (or close) they would still have had the time. Just a defensive collapse. Still, Barkley makes that catch 19 times out of 20. I am sure he feels terrible today.

The Giants plan is proceeding as designed. Mistreat your start running back. Pawn him off on your superior NFC East opponent. Tell him to drop the ball at critical times so they lose the game thus keeping Giants alive in division.

The running play would have taken at least 46 seconds more of clock and they could have been in tush push range on 4th down. No doubt Barkley should have caught it but it was a horrendous gamble throwing a pass there.

I noticed a goofy trend during the first half. Barkley was getting 8 ypc. Eagles get into the red zone. They take Barkley out. Falcons did the same thing. Algier got going better in the 2nd half, but he stalled 2 1st half drives.

Eagles tackling is horrible as well. Looked like us vs BG in the 1st half.

Fell asleep for the end. Imagine if Nick took the FG in the 1st quarter.

Yeah, it’s the theory that the field is smaller in the red zone so it’s harder to run. But to take out Barkley, their best threat, is dumb.

How is it a gamble? A middle schooler should make that catch. The odds of catching that are like 98-99%. Are those good odds? You make it seem like they threw some low percentage fade into the corner of the endzone against double coverage. With that view you better not get out of bed because you may be hit by a car today. Of course, after he drops it then it is the coach's fault for calling the play. C'mon this is squarely on Barkley and then just as much on the defense for collapsing like a cheap tent.

Yes he dropped it but it shows it’s still a gamble as everything was perfect except the catch. The only way to lose was give Atlanta the ball with time. Throwing the ball was only way clock could stop. If they run and he loses yards they still most likely would have won. Risk reward and the risk was higher and they lost.

Pass plays are inherently more of a gamble because more "easy" things can go wrong ... however there is blame enough for just about everyone here.

Bad play call on the pass.
Horrible drop by Barkley.
Defense was a sieve.
Hurts and the offense completely panicked and blew the chance for a FG.

It was just a cascading mudslide of doom. Any of those things could have been overcome (or not had a chance of happening) ... but for them to utterly fail at each and every turn, starting with that play ... it's crazy.

Their pass rush blows. They are going nowhere without fixing that - if they can.

Hurts is showing his limitations - kind of like what caused him to have to leave Bama for OU - and the Georgia picks, which seemed like genius at the time, are trending down. Dean is a liability, Davis is soft and Carter needs to channel Fletcher Cox and play much harder snap to snap.

They could have been stuffed on a run and still given up a TD drive. Players have to execute simple plays. The handoff could have been botched. Need to blame Barkley.

Barkley gets blame--everyone including Barkley accepts that. The play call was still risky and unnecessary when the primary goal is to run the clock.

Saquan had a good game. Felt sorry for him dropping that pass. Eagles still looked good except for red zone and defense line. Cousins had a very much above average great game.

It’s one game.

Sounds like Woody Hayes. Three things can happen when you pass and two of them are bad.

Looked good?? They probably have the worst defensive front 7 in the nfl. The only reason that was still a game was because Cousins was dreadful until the 4th quarter

They are giving up 6.5 yards per carry this season. You can’t win football games with a defense like that

Not true. Hall of Famer Steve Van Buren, 2 time World Champion, retired from the Philadelphia Eagles as the all time NFL leader in rushing yardage and touchdowns. He was named to both the NFL 75 and 100 Anniversary Teams (neither Franco or Saquon) and his number 15 was retired by the Eagles.
I'll go along with that. The top 3 RBs ever to play for a Pennsylvania college or pro team were Steve Van Buren, Franco, and Saquon.

Even after he dropped the pass, they should have gone for it on fourth down…take more time off the clock and if they don’t score, they leave the Falcons in horrible field position most likely playing for a field goal, so they wouldn’t have been as aggressive.
