Actually, he's somewhere in the Top 20 according to the annual survey by players which is shown on the NFL Network (on consecutive nights this year, which is a nice format); so far they have counted down from 100 to 21; Saquon has been featured commenting on some other players.

20 - 11 will be announced tonight

I recall a couple years ago, CJF called Saquon "one of the best players on the planet". Not an exaggeration.

IMHO, he's a game changer. I've had several non-PSU fans tell me at events "you knew. You said so when #26 was a freshmen". IMHO, he's the best or second best non-QB in terms of impact on the team (the other non-quarterback being Khalil Mack. Having said that, I am told that Myles Garrett will simply be unstoppable this year if he stays healthy.

Yeah, Myles Garrett ranked #49 on the list, and then plenty of comments about him being ranked too low.

The list so far:

I enjoy trying to read between the lines in pre-season. We saw this with Barkley and several others here at PSU. The buzz on Garrett is that he is unstoppable one-on-one in camp and they are thinking about pulling him out because they don't want the LT to lose confidence. That's a hell of a statement.

no exaggeration whatsoever - he should be #1 - and it's really not that close imho

Admittedly, I am only 36 years old, so I have not had a chance to watch some of the old greats; Jim Brown, Walter Payton, Bart Starr, etc. But I am a football junkie and I have seen a lot of incredible players over the last 35 years. Saquon is hands down the greatest football player I have ever seen. Not Quarterback, I almost think of that as a different category, but football player. I mean this with no hyperbole or bias. He is a 10 out of 10 regarding athleticism, agility, balance, speed, power, height/weight, blocking, catching, etc. Im not sure there are less than 6 positions he could play and excel at.

He’s up there for me. I do remember Rod Woodson in his prime - freak! Then there was Reggie White, Calvin Johnson, etc.

When I meet pro athletes I try to ask them what players made them rethink their profession. I remember a guy talking about Calvin Johnson’s athleticism like we might talk about meeting a supermodel - like meeting someone from another planet

Tom Brady, Aaron Rodgers, Aaron Donald, Khalil Mack, Russell Wilson, Drew Brees, Bobby Wagner and Deandre Hopkins will be ranked higher, I'd imagine. That'd put Saquon behind eight players right off the bat.

A case could also be made for Odell Beckham Jr., Julio Jones, Von Miller, Michael Thomas, J.J. Watt, Luke Kuechly, Phil Rivers, Zeke Elliott, Jalen Ramsey, probably a few more I'm missing.

I'll say Saquon is 16th. Not bad for one season in the NFL.

Beckham was #23, so he won’t be ahead of Barkley.

That’s some good prognosticating right there!

I wouldn't get too butthurt over his ranking. He's played one year in the NFL and he's already considered the 16th best player on the planet. Imagine what people will think after his sophomore year!

20 years ago we were all saying this about LaVar Arrington. A few pro bowls and seven years in the league, not bad. But he didn't turn out to be the best of all time.

Yup, injuries are the one thing that can derail saquon

Aaron Donald of Los Angeles Rams named No. 1 in 'Top 100 Players of 2019' countdown

Quite an honor for the kid from Penn Hills HS and Pitt. He'll be the second player from Penn Hills to be in Pro Football HOF (Bill Fralic).

I think you have plenty of bias ( I do too in this instance) but it doesn’t mean you’re wrong. You’ve focused a lot of time on Barkley as have the rest of us.
Which means we’ve seen a lot from him. Yeah as fans we’re biased, but in this case we’re correct.

He had the misfortune of being on the Redskins and I think went through three or for different DCs before the injury ruined his career (not to mention all the contract nonsense that went on with him). His three Pro Bowl Seasons produced a total of:

279 Tackles
29 TFL
3 INT (for 120 Return Yards + 1 TD)
28 Passes Defended
17.5 Sacks
6 Forced Fumbles

Too bad he didn't help Pitt win. He played for 5 head coaches, and went 27-25 against a terrible OOC schedule, and an even worse conference schedule in the Big East and ACC. Fortunately for him, they played New Hampshire, Maine, Old Dominion, and Gardner-Webb, or he likely would have had a losing record at Pitt.

Kamara and Gurley were ahead of him...I think Gurley was #5? Was just watching the scroll so can’t remember. SB was just ahead of Elliott if I recall.

It's funny how Pitt has had some great NFL indivduals who enjoyed success over long careers over the years (Dorsett, Marino, Curtis Martin, Darrelle Revis, Larry Fitzgerald are names that come to mind) yet has been such a mediocre program for so long. Penn State had guys like Franco and Jack Ham and Mike Munchak but really hasn't had anyone with that kind of NFL success that I can think of recently due to injuries, bad luck, etc. If Saquon stays healthy and keeps working like he does now he'll have that kind of career. His ranking should go up.

Gurley is near his end, the body is breaking down fast. I think I read somewhere in the past couple of months that he's already dealing with arthritis at age 25. That running style just doesn't hold up over an extended football career anymore.
