SBNation preview of Ohio St

Where will they play their home games after their campus is burned down to the ground?

Bucks will not go unbeaten with their QB situation the way it is. They do have a great schedule but for two road games and I expect them to be thoroughly tested in both and possibly lose both.

You may be right but if you saw Haskins against Michigan I don't think you'd say something like "with their QB situation the way it is". They can definitely lose 2 games (anyone in the country can) but they're an elite team on paper. Just like Penn State is going to be highly rated next year without Trace.

OSU can potentially lose 3 games this year...at TCU, at PSU, and at MSU.

If Schiano can continue to plug in guys on defense and not see any drop off, they are at worst a 2-loss team. The offense is very likely going to be just as strong, but moreso in the passing aspect than the mobile QB fashion that Urban teams tend to be. The only possible snag could be if Haskins struggles throwing any, how much patience does Urban have with Wilson letting Haskins slinging the before he brings in the backup QB (ie the more mobile, read option guy)?

On paper, they look stout. Early matchup with them will be intriguing.

Everything I'm hearing RE Haskins has me believing he's the real deal - potentially their best QB in recent memory. With that said, hard to not expect a first-year QB's first-year'ness not to cost the team 1.5 games in B10 play. Teams with our level of D or better present real challenges for first year QBs.

Yeah, lots of factors going into the PSU -- tOSU matchup, but the early date of Sept. 29 is a real wild card. Will the new starters on defense for PSU be gelling? Will Haskins be ready for a huge road game?

Agree. Not hard to see them being a better team than us at season's end. But getting them early is definitely an advantage for us, and I can see that being just enough to be the difference allowing us to pull off the win.

Experience level is huge early in the season. Just look at Pitt vs us a couple of years ago. Nobody could/would question that we were the much better team at season's end, but their experience level (relative to ours) allowed them to play with - and actually beat - us early in the season.

We're going to have a bunch of first year starters, but our first year starters have A LOT. of live snaps under their belts. John Reid back too.

Plus, takes longer for new offensive players to get things figured out than it does new defensive players.

Agree that it's going to be an interesting/fun (stressful) early season game.

Like to throw in Michigan from the same season as another example to go along with yours.

With our LB corp at it's full strength and the OL picture played out, could have been a much different game.

I didn't think JT got the most out of the talent around him. Haskins might be an improvement.

He was great against UM but there was no prep for him by the wolverines. It will be different in 2018 but he has a favorable schedule to maneuver through.

Talent is talent. I'm not saying he's going to be elite or anything (though clearly he has that kind of potential) but the kid isn't someone I'd be worried about if I was rooting for Ohio State. There isn't a "QB situation"...they're set. Just like we'll be set next year and probably in 2020 even after Trace and Tommy are gone. A new QB isn't always bad thing. Oklahoma should be just fine with Kyler Murray replacing Baker Mayfield.

haskins is the real deal but there is no substitute for experience. McS is as good as there is but had two really awful decisions in the closing minutes of the Pitt and USC games that he wouldn't make last year. tOSU lost a lot at DE while they have a unanimous AA pick at DT (Little Bosa). Ourlads has them starting a RS Fr at MLB and two Fr as DB's. They'll always have great athletes but they always send kids early to the NFL. as such, they are often inexperienced at places and can get shaken/make mistakes.
