Is the implication that they're going to start hooking cars that don't have one after they get in? This policy was always supposed to be their policy, although I've never seen enforcement of it. They're going for willing compliance I imagine. Maybe others have had different experiences.

It might be an "unexplored revenue stream" though, if they decided to go out during a game and ticket cars that don't have one.

Scalpers try to buy your parking pass just after you park your vehicle. I didn't even have my vehicle shut off when they asked at the Kent State game. I suppose they could ticket cars without them..or boot them , or tow them. Not sure what the ticket would be for? illegal parking? I see the day them the passes are scanned to combat this. I'd like to see them tow cars first though, that would send a nice message to others to not do it.

Is this really that much of a problem? You really want tow trucks weaving through the tailgate area pulling cars? Hit just one person and, the costs to the university would far outweigh the financial damage caused by some people selling their pass after they parked.

I wonder how much of a problem fake or reused parking passes really are. And is it such a large problem that it is worth some kind of technological or labor intensive solution to fix?

I mean, they could imbed an RFID tag in the passes and scan them as they enter the lot - or a QR code that you could print out at home and stick in your window. Or have people walk the lots during the game to give out tickets/tows.

But is the cost of that worth it based on whatever problem they're trying to solve?

Why don't they just start cracking down on the scalpers? I mean, half of the time they are standing right next to the police right off the Innivation Park exit.

If you use a pass to park in the East Deck, they tear it in half. Not sure why they only do this in the East Deck.

Saw scalpers downtown this morning already with a sign. Buying/Selling Parking passes and tickets.

I imagine there will be lots of counterfeiting going on this weekend.

East Deck is staffed by Transportation Services not ICA.
So, I take it that Trans Services turns in their half of the pass for some type of compensation from ICA? Because that would also eliminate reselling.

The passes have barcodes on them. They don’t scan them though, and it would be a tremendous delay if they did, but people wouldn’t buy from scalpers if there was a chance the pass had been scanned already.

They could just sell more passes since they aren’t actually out of spaces by a long shot. There’s yellow parking lots on the map that won’t have a car in it tomorrow.

People would still buy the passes from scalpers even if they scanned the barcodes. That would be no different than the current situation with tickets, since tickets can be reissued and printed from home, mobile tickets, etc.

What they should do is have the guys that actually tell you where to park and guide you into the spot just rip the parking passes in half. It wouldn't slow down the process and would ensure the pass isn't reused.

Totally agree about selling more passes or letting people pay as they enter this weekend. For an athletic department that is looking for ways to make money, it really doesn't make sense to turn anybody away. It would be impossible to actually run out of physical spaces for this game.
