Scientists discover massive object under Antarctica

Interesting. Just for my clarification. You mean under the many layers of ice and snow. Antarctica is a land mass so "under" might not be the right description.

Not flaming just actually curious and clearing up your meaning.

So that's where it is!

Anybody else watch some of Continent 7: Antarctica series on Natl Geo cable channel?

Scientists at work under very harsh conditions....pretty interesting

Could be an asteroid, or it could be the Millenium Falcon or an Imperial Star Destroyer. Or maybe just a big mass of naturally occurring metals? Whatever it is, it's an interesting story. Look forward to reading more about it.

Interesting. Any more info?

Before Christmas he tweeted out something about evil and pyramids under the ice of Antarctica with a picture. The tweet was deleted but if you google pyramids under Antarctica you can find lots of info either talking about it or debunking it.

So big that it altered the gravitational force in the area. Speculation is a massive asteroid that hit earth eons ago. Could be interesting....for post Rose Bowl entertainment.
It is probably best to hold off getting too excited until somebody other than a tabloid in Britain starts running with the story. Somebody scientific, for instance.

Otherwise, you are heading right smack into fake news territory.

I know. I know. People are eating that shiat up these days.

This series is very well done.

I was fortunate enough to spend two months in Antarctica while I was in grad school. It is an amazing, awe inspiring place, but an extremely difficult place to work. If folks have questions/want to hear stories, let me know.

Regarding asteroids/meteorites, more meteorites are found in Antarctica than anywhere else on Earth. The simple (and somewhat obvious) reason for this is that because most of the continent is covered with ice, if you see a rock, it is almost certainly a meteorite. They use the incredibly scientific search method of having a line of snow mobiles comb across the ice looking for dark spots. But it works. That's how they found the infamous "Mars Meteorite". I met the woman who found it while I was down there.

I'd love to read stories from your time there. Whenever you have time, just post away about something you experienced, major obstacles to existing there, etc. I've seen a lot of shows about Antarctica, and read a few books about it -- kind of a secret fascination I have.
