Greg Sankey and friends have their work cut out for them after three 2-loss teams were handed yet a 3rd loss by middle-of-the-pack conference teams. Alabama's defeat in particular was bad.

So what will Finebaum's line be this week? Let me guess: it all goes to prove how good the SEC is from top to bottom.

Get real, Paul, and cut the bullshit propagandizing for 5 SEC teams to make the playoffs. The reality is it should only be 3. The emperor has no clothes.

But the SEC's loss is a big-time gain for other conferences. Four Big-10 teams look to be a lock -- Indiana was exposed but has some room for playoff error after all of yesterday's upsets -- and the door has been opened for the two lesser leagues to possibly get a second team in.

Meanwhile, that was a great win for us yesterday, and we've opened as 24-point favorites to complete an 11-win season against Maryland. As for Notre Dame, I wouldn't underestimate USC's chances to spring the upset at home next week.

Don’t worry, the SEC shills like Finebaum and Herbstreit will be pushing for teams with three losses to get in, you can count on that.
Most people will
I really don't believe anyone thinks a 2-loss ACC team should be in. Like FSU last year...it means nothing if you beat no one.

and they might be right to say
They’re not…At some point they have to have standards that apply to all conferences…otherwise it becomes a bigger joke than it already is. Bama has more talent than everyone except maybe Georgia, so every loss they have is a bad loss. If their argument is that almost every team in the SEC is equal, then none of them deserve to be in, not more.

The argument is the SEC is deep that "on any given Saturday" because of the talent level they can beat others
I think Auburn, OU and Florida could beat Indiana, Miami and SMU at home--maybe would in some of the scenarios
The real problem is...there's a P2 and the rest

Bama is toast. Even Finebaum said that this morning.
They should be. They got destroyed by a very mediocre OU (5-5) team last night. Early in the game OU sprung a double pass and had a receiver in the end zone with no one within 15 yards and he dropped the ball. It’s what bad teams do. That possession ended with a missed chip shot field goal. It should have been 31-7. Their loss to Vandy was similarly bad. I believe Bama is DQ’d.

Agreed. No 3-loss team should make the cut unless it's through a CCG upset. Every one of those SEC upsets yesterday were to less than impressive opponents. In that respect, they all qualified as bad losses.

That said, it also goes to show the degree of parity in college football these days. The on-any-given-Saturday rule has never been more in force.

Which by the way speaks to a point I've been making all season: a lot of our 10 wins against teams that many people sneered at -- West Virginia, USC, Wisconsin, Washington, Minnesota -- were all damn decent and meaningful victories. We've got, what, the 30th best SOS in the country. That didn't come from nowhere.

Screw the SEC. I'm tired of their presumption of superiority. It's not justified...not this year at least.

I think the transfer portal is bringing parity to the game by spreading around talent more effectively. You see a number of g5 or fcs stars moving up and you have a number of struggling former highly rated kids from top programs experiencing new beginnings at those lower level schools. You also unfortunately see kids that are moving every year that aren’t getting developed appropriately as well. Despite Franklin shortcomings vs OSU, he does a good job keeping the core team together and sprinkling in portal additions as needed. I think the only portal transfer out that has ever negatively and significantly impacted us is KLS. The result of consistency is at least least 10 wins each season.

speaking of transfers out, I wonder how King Mack feels about this season

I wonder if she called a 16-year-old high school boy to meet her up at a seedy diner to ask for his opinion on the playoff like she did when she was covering high school sports down here in Maryland.

How do you drop PSU from 4 to 6?

ND doesn't play in a CCG game and everyone good below PSU is losing games more or less.
The seeds for the top four are conference winners. Penn State won’t win the conference so they can’t be in the top four. Same with whoever loses between Oregon and Ohio State in the conference championship game if that’s who ends up playing in it.

No. They are on the bubble. Still need 12 teams.
My point was that they got hammered by Oklahoma who pounded Alabama's defense for 260 yards on the ground. Plus, Oklahoma was 5-5 entering the game and they're not the Oklahoma of past years. Losing 24-3 to a 5-5 team is pretty bad when you're trying to get into the Playoffs

But you can in a 12 team playoff
Just like ND can lose to a MAC team
And Miami and SMU don't need play play anyone and have a bad loss can get in
Remember margin of victory or defeat is allegedly not a component. A win is a win. A loss is a loss. Just how does it impact the eye test.
Bama's win over UGa keeps them alive

How? That's the argument whether we like it or not
Indiana would be 6-6 in the SEC. We'd be fine. Indiana is smoke and mirrors. Ideally we get them in the playoff. The equivalent of a bye.

Yes and Auburn is going to crush PSU. We can't keep up with their speed.

LOL

Nope...we'd beat Auburn and Florida and OU. You're over rating Indiana if you're mad at this.
If we play Indiana in the playoff what do you think we'd win by? 20ish? Ohio State dominated them like we dominated Purdue. Not let the score fool you.

Right, assuming a Buckeye win over Michigan, a pretty safe assumption, the best we can hope for is #5, but there are lots of scenarios that put us at either #6 or #7.

For example, Ohio State beating Oregon in a close CCG might well keep the Ducks ahead of us in the final seeding.

Same thing with the SEC CCG. Georgia beating Texas in a close game, for example, might seed Texas in front of us.

I mean, who knows. But I do think that if we handle Maryland as expected, the worst we can end up is #7.
