Senior World Team Trials Challenge - May 16-17

Holy shit!!! I think that was a td. It’s super close with Dake having the cheat wrap but I think it was 2. Dake almost never loses like that. He’s so good at shutting it down and keeping guys at bay. Carter is a different kind of dude though

Bullshit. I love Dake but that was a td. My only question is if time was out. That’s the only thing that makes sense. If time was on the clock that was 2

Circling & tying up. Hamiti shoots, but nothing. He tries a drag & Levi drops to a leg, then finishes another TD, 10-2

Levi Haines DEC Dean Hamiti, Jr 10-2

Levi takes 1st Place & will face Evan Wick at Final X.
Said it during NCAAs -- Levi lost largely because his shots put him in bad positions where he couldn't finish and/or could be countered. Adjustments made.

Ball is now in Taylor's court. If he's going to be a championship-level coach, he will need to be able to train guys to win the rematches.

it’s freestyle. they really honor the chest wrap. he never exposed or broke the lock.

takedown in folkstyle, but i don’t think an international official would give that so i’m glad they didn’t give it here.

from someone with no rooting interest. not a fan of either guy.

The chest wrap is irrelevant if he’s head outside and between the legs. At that point you’re not actively defending anything.

The Flo clock skipped from 0:04 to 0:00, lol

in folkstyle yes, but is that how they officiate freestyle? i’ve seen lots of times where officials hold the call until the lock is broken or he exposes.

he also wasn’t between both legs either.
Shocking you disagree with it. Shocking stuff must be a long weekend.

As much as I love what we have in Kasak, I said it long ago. If Duke wants to go Next year I don't think we have anyone that can stop him.

I hope he RSs not only for the team but he just might have the chops in another year to go wire to wire to challenge Cael, granted with probably 50 fewer career matches.

I give the edge to Duke, but Blaze isn't that far behind. What a tandem set of recruits, Jason and Bo were the best so far, watch out.

I feel like normally that involves the head being under. Idk. Admittedly freestyle scoring seems super arbitrary. But that *should* be 2 in any style, because you have no control there with a chest wrap.

Dake was on his hip and rolling to the side. Not in a position to execute the chest wrap. If that's what they called, it was a reputation call.

Ran out of time makes a lot more sense, and something we can't tell because of Flo.

Called into work today. You're my MVP of the weekend. Thank you very much.

you shouldn’t until you expose and that’s what typically happens. 2 more seconds and starocci gets the exposure.
Fair enough, but if he pushes to expose the chest wrapper rolls through and it’s just as likely to go 2 Dake.

If the Answer to that is “No Starocci had enough control to expose and not get rolled through”, then it’s a takedown.

Has to be a point where a guy can get the takedown there without needing exposure.

What a weekend for PSU and the NLWC. Going into Final X we have
57-LL
70-Duke
74-Mesenbrink
79-Levi
86-Dake
92-Barr

With Blaze taking 3rd and Carter second. Would be pretty sweet to put 6 on the senior world team (I’ll take 3 though) especially with 5 of the 6 still having college eligibility and most with 3+ years. I’ve never seen anything like it. Seems like a changing of the guard year. Lots of young guys coming up and a bunch of all time greats hanging up their shoes

Snyder too, potentially, for better or worse.

Here's the example I'm thinking of. Taz has both legs and head outside. Sadulaev has a chest lock. Official holds takedown for over 10 seconds, even when Taz steps over both legs and puts Sadulaev on both cheeks. Only when the chest lock is broken, is the takedown given.

All I'm seeing is the NLWC is weak at 61 and 65.

Yeah, we only have the reigning world Champ at 61 and the 2 that were in the Oly Trials finals last year at 65.... WEAK

I've come to generally cheer for Dake as one of our own--but I sure am getting tired of him beating PSU guys.... I dunno how you're supposed to score that--the more I look, the more it looks like 2, but the clock is obviously screwed up, and I get JS's point.

See to me the difference here is the head position. Sadulaev more or less has the shoulder beat, but in the Dake/Starocci situation the head is across the body and out the other side

But not when time is out! Count down from 4 when it stops (shocking Flo had a technical issue). It’s only after the clock hits zero (which is signalled by the judge) that Starocci circles and takes Dake from his inside hip to both cheeks. Dake still has the shoulder beat when time runs out.

Even so, there’s still 2-3 seconds in Sadulaev clip where Taz has circled and Sadulaev is no longer beating his shoulder. It’s only when he breaks his chest lock, that the points are given.

If Carter could have got just a little bit more lift from his feet not only does he get the two, but he probably gets the four. Dake's chest wrap saved the day there. Veteran move by Dake. I don't think this version of Dake is going to see as much success internationally at 86 kg than he had at 74 and 79. It will be very interesting to see Carter's progression as he now focuses solely on freestyle. I sure hope he sticks with freestyle for a good while rather than quickly transitioning to MMA.
