There was no one for him to wrestle off with. Singletary was going to redshirt and move to 197 next year Kirk was going to go this year as heavy. Pretty sure wrestle off had zero to do with any of it.

Singletary has been rumored to move down to 197 after Kollin leaves... it’s the most plausible scenario if a guy like Seth came on board.

I read he was going to Olympic redshirt this year. With Kerk going heavy this year. Then next year he would take over at 197 while Kerk stayed at heavy. Obviously not the case anymore.

Maybe that was the plan if he had medaled at U-23's, he didn't medal at U-23's, so therefore he didn't qualify for an Olympic RS.

That was precisely the plan, prior to Kirkvliet leaving the day before the season started.
Singletary received "a waiver" and could have done an ORS this year.
Note- I dont know what qualifies one to get "a waiver", but thats what the coaches stated. He received said waiver prior to competing at worlds. So, it didnt matter if he won a medal, or not.
