This (rivalry) could be very significant for your state!
Posting the same on the Panther board.

No. Only a few people in Allegheny county care about Pitt (and even there most don't care either as you can tell from all the empty yellow seats at your average Pitt game). The rest of the 12 million or so people in Pennsylvania don't give them 5 minutes of thought during football season.

wish they didn't. Penn state used to be a pittsburgh team, over the past 20 years that has gone away. Gone are kids wearing PSU gear its just the 60+ old fat white man still go to fraternity function crowd now. A game here and there is tolerable if we have to , but no need to invite them back into our city.

I live in the Pittsburgh area. My wife is a Pitt grad. Both of us say no. Pitt brings nothing to the table but proximity. Penn State needs to play teams with a national image... Alabama, USC, Florida, Oregon, Texas, Notre Dame, Florida State.
PSU is not going to play the teams you throw out there, so yes, let's play Pitt. Every year.

Trust me I am A very old western PA fan and have no interest in playing Pitt
If we win it was only Pitt. If we lose it is a disaster. 48-14 I was there.
but stepping back from our allegiances for a moment,

if pitt wins realistically, what can they say? they beat the 7th-9th place big 10 team? We have bragging rights over our neighbors, great, same in reverse. But no one outside the state cares

It means waaaay more than that to Pitt fans and you can tell just by reading 5 minutes of their posts.

They repeatedly post the score of the last game between frankly 2 lousy teams as if it was a national title game epic upset. It was 1 game in a very long series (but likely the only Pitt win most of them have seen).

They repeatedly post the date here of the game next year like its the "game of the century" or the Super Bowl. Most PSU fans here couldn't tell you the day we play Pitt because it's not the center of our lives as it apparently is to some Yinzers.

This means everything to Pitt because of an inferiority complex (just see the trolling tonight because 1 recruit chose Pitt). It's kind of funny and yet pretty pathetic at the same time. ;)

Nah. The only Penn State fans that care about the Pitt-PSU rivalry are older fans or people who live near Pittsburgh. No one on the eastern side of the state cares about Pitt.

If that's how eastern PA feels, just imagine how little we out of staters care about it...

My post "Should Panthers play Lions") got deleted @ the Pitt board(LOL!)

I thought about doing the same. We've had this discussion 100s/1,000s of times on this board. Plus, tonight is not a great time for such a discussion. I cleaned up the thread, but if becomes a mess again, I'm likely to simply delete the thread.

Pitt fan here. Playing PSU definitely means a lot to Pitt. Not the same as WVU, but important. The Hoopies are definitely our bigger rival. I think PSU, WVU and Pitt should play every year. I love having PSU on our schedule for the next 4 years. It makes the games fun. I'd much rather have that than a game against Villanove, Temple, Youngstown St or Akron. I cant wait to visit PSU next year. I've never been to a game there before. Will be cool to sit in a stadium with over 100k screaming fans.

Sorry about that Tom!
Didn't realize.
How far back was it last discussed so I can see what was said.
thanks

I haven't a clue when it was last discussed. It's a thread that I generally avoid, and only skim through it to see if it's causing problems (which is often does). You could try the search function, though Pitt is mentioned quite frequently for reasons other than "should PSU play Pitt?" so I'm not sure how useful the search function would be for you.

I can see why you don't want to play Akron. They zip it up vs. sPitt!!

Some idiot deleted my post in this dumb thread.

The answer is no. sPitt is meaningless unless we impart them with meaning. NO national team or conference has any interest in sPitt. None...NADA.

sPitt should be ignored. Forever. By everyone.

In the last 15 years, Penn State has just 6 more wins than Pitt.
Yeah and how many years were you under unjust sanctions besides your self imposed ones - we can all play the wins over x timeframe straw man - meaningless.

There are 4 games scheduled the next 4 years! This game was a national rivalry ( was always on the Friday after Thanksgiving ) and will pick up where it left off.

They're on the schedule for the next four years, so what's the point of asking if they should? It's moot. They are playing.

That's an entire extra season of wins for Pitt! Pitt plays in the cakewalk ACC coastal and the big least before that, and wasn't subject to unjust sanctions. Over the last 25 years, pit has a losing record.

Yes I think they should play. Every other state plays an in state rival. Clemson vs South Carolina, Utah vs BYU, Florida vs Florida State, it makes for a good game. I am part of the old guard when PSU played WVU, Pitt, Notre Dame, Syracuse, Boston College on a yearly basis and to be honest those games meant more than any PSU vs Indiana game ever will So yes

I for one was relieved when Pitt put an end to the series in the 90s. I wish we weren't playing, UPS has all the momentum and will likely win easily. This game is all we have as Pitt fans, I am terrified we will lose it like we always did.

When will this myth stop getting repeated?

Miami/florida
Texas/aTm
aTm/Baylor
Etc....

The ACC has more first round picks than the B10. According to Athlons top 50 returning players list, the SEC has 15, the ACC has 13, and the B10 has 10. So you can keep telling yourself and anyone else who will listen that you play in a superior conference, but until I see some evidence, I'm not buying it.

It's hard to beat solid evidence like that -- a magazine's projection of the best players for next season?
