Goodness gracious. I was only joking with the guy next to me when I said that Pitt would probably call the shovel pass on the 2 pt. conversion. I didn't believe that. How could the PSU defense have not been ready for it at that point in the game? Oh well.

I honestly think Pry didn't think Pitt could possibly keep calling it over and over again. No other team does that.

If they knew how to stop the shovel pass, they would have done that sooner and stopped Pitt from scoring

The first time they ran it, I realized this was Narduzzi's plan to pull off the upset - shovel passes. I knew it would not be nearly enough for them to win, but it was kind of annoying that PSU didn't adjust better

Sometimes you just need to give credit to the other guy for having a good gameplan and executing. I think PSU was on the first few shovel passes for limited gains, but also think Pitt may have been mixing in more motion to shift some focus to the outside as the game went along. PSU was on hyper alert about Henderson and jet sweeps and did an excellent job on those types of plays, that comes with a little bit of a cost. Pitt picked up on it and called plays accordingly. Kudos to them.....but they only found the end zone once so not like this was a real difference maker.

I'd like to see PSU use that once in a while.

I think Pitt had success with it because PSU defenders were soft in the middle, worrying about the sweep plays.

The sweep killed us last year.

The sweep did no damage today.

The shovel pass was effective in that they sustained some drives. It could not beat us. Our coaches hedged on this. We played back, expecting some down field passes. Early on when Pitt threw the ball, we were getting INTs. Then they quit. They choose a slow death. We let em bleed.

No more. No less.

lines like that often turn into country & western hits. If you've got the musical smarts to go along with the wordsmithing aspect (that you've already mastered), you could earn a lot of money. ;)
Notwithstanding the loss of 21guns, there must be someone musical here who could pull that off.
