We have a culture problem.
Great use of a backhanded compliment.Great use of the unfortunate scholarship availability!
I didn't mean it as a backhanded compliment. Definitely fronthanded. When given lemons, Franklin makes lemonade. He espouses community service and when he has an opportunity to reward it, he does. He reveals his character by rewarding good character.Great use of a backhanded compliment.
and that winning is only the cherry on the sundaeSeriously, it’s hard to fight back the tears watching that video. The parents’ reactions, and then Franklin gives them both a hug. Wow. And then the players rally around Shu. Great moment.
I love our culture.
Now I need to learn more about Maiya and Shu’s foundation.
Please take this opportunity to remember that We Are lucky to have James Franklin.
Shu was wearing #51 in the video. He is listed as 79 on the roster. Why the number change? Gellerstad is listed as 51 on the roster. Did I miss number changes? Or do scout team guys change numbers at practice to reflect the upcoming opponent?
Yeah, right there with you. Don't know the back story, but apparently it's awesome....Those videos- regardless of player and/or school- never fail to choke me up. Fantastic.
That's great stuff, right there!

Well said.To me college football is a lot more than performance between the lines. It is about a coach and a program transforming the lives of players. For every Barkley who will make truck loads of cash in the NFL, there are dozens of not hundreds of players who will make very little or no $ in the NFL. Some of these players are like Shu...walk ons who were not highly recruited out of high school. Others are 4 and 5 star recruits.
The opportunity to earn a college scholarship along with the other opportunities that football affords players has a ton of value. Take someone like Bryce Love. Kid is likely a NFL player next year, but even if something crazy happens he has a Stanford degree, which will provide him pretty fantastic opportunities in the future.
Fun to watch a PSU player get a scholarship and ease the financial impact on him/his families. These videos always give me chills - doesn’t matter which school it is. They are really fun to watch.
Anyway to not love him? No. Ways to bitch about sone of his game day decisions? Stay tuned. That said, I will take him. He will get the game stuffed figures out (like kicking a FG at OSU instead of going for a throat crushing TD). He will get us where we want to go. Good job, Coach!Just watched the video, is there anyway to not love Franklin? Of course we are biased, but has he ever misstepped? We are unbelievably fortunate to have this man steering our ship.
Learned to swim on Lake Wallenpaupack from his grandfather back in the day. Nicest and most gentle instructor and phys ed teacher you'd ever meet. Great kid and family. Congrats Charlie!

Isn't it amazing how eager some are to find fault?I didn't mean it as a backhanded compliment. Definitely fronthanded. When given lemons, Franklin makes lemonade.
