SIAP: Judge issues ruling on Beta Theta Pi Hearing

The Judge is a bogus pr..k. He wasn't going to over rule his earlier decision.
IMO.....nobody will have anything permanently on their record. There most likely will be a significant settlement paid out via the Insurance/Liability carriers and hopefully some new anti hazing laws in PA. The Judge seems to not have the stomach for anything significant from a criminal perspective. I have a buddy who is a neighbor of the deceased and knew he and his folks very well. He was a great kid who made a big mistake and trusted others who in the end ....abandoned him when he was in desperate need.

Disagree. Even misdemeanors are on your permanent record. You're saying they are all going to get off with no penalty? Conspiracy to commit hazing was added yesterday to a bunch of them also.

I believe that the way this works out is a few ....may.....take misdemeanor charges which can / may get expunged at a later date...but longer term will not have any serious effect on anyone's career /professional lives. Just so I am 100% clear.....I fully support the deceased and his family.....my gut tells me that the ultimate end point will be a disappointment for them in addition to losing a son. If they can change the way that PA law currently deals with hazing that would be somewhat of a victory for the family as they sincerely want to add something positive to this horrible situation.

I like the ruling and feel for the accused frat members. I doubt if they did anything different with their hazing than thousands of others. There was no intent. I'm sure they thought Tim Piazza was just drunk instead of seriously injured from his fall, just a bad run of unfortunate circumstances combined with a lack of foresight and caution.

The thing with hazing is that no one involved is innocent. Whether it be the one's doing the hazing or the ones allowing themselves to be hazed. It is a terrible situation and there isn't one person involved that thought this outcome could happen but it did.

Until people truly believe that these outcomes are real hazing will continue.

Yes, that's why they are all charged with hazing and it's bound over for trial. They don't have to have stacy parks miller overcharging in this case just because she is vindictive. Charge them with what can be won. Instead we have 2 years of preliminary hearings.

Without the overcharging, her mug wouldn't have been on TV every day during an election year. It's funny how the karma train operates. Choo choo!

Just keep filing, just keep filing...

I'm totally on board that hazing shouldn't occur in any form, but I'd also be cautious about wanting the state to pass new anti-hazing laws in a knee jerk fashion. Plays good in the media, but there are always unintended consequences of these things. For example when they put in new child reporting laws after Sandusky the child line system became overwhelmed b/c state congress put no money towards hiring new staff. In 2015 42k calls went unanswered with that number climbing to 50k in 2016. Good intent of course, but no resources from the gov't to support the new expectations.

So this is about SPM.
No sir, she made it about her. A young adult tragically died. I'm not sure what the charges should be, but I damn sure know it shouldn't be used to get reelected.

More video was shown.....not evidence?????????????????
I said "no new evidence to support the refiled charges". Kinda like chopping off "With the benefit of hindsight". Different angles of the same timeframe/events did not support those charges. Sorry, but these kids deserve a fair shake, free of emotions.

Hazing is what weak people do to prop themselves up. We should have two threads on this topic. One thread for the delusional greek boys reliving their past glory and the other thread for those in the real world.

Wilful participant should not be forgotten. Sorry bad things happen. He didn't want to join because it was a study hall. Short of being tied or held down for all 18 drinks or even a small amount changes it. We have a lot of laws ... we don't need more.

It sucks and it is terrible and tragic. The brothers are all losers and the parents have to deal with the loss of a child. But at some point we need to call a spade.

this will happen next year and the year after and the year after all over the country. Make it death penalty worthy and it will still happen.
