Black Shoe Diaries in its breakdown of the Pitt game today states:

"Penn State’s defensive line should be boosted by the return of starting defensive tackle Kevin Givens, who was suspended for week one, as well as Shane Simmons, who is looking to make his season debut after recovering from a minor injury."

Is this true? If so, our d line is going to look a whole lot different from last week.

Man I hope thats true but I do not have a good feeling that either Shane or Tommy will be available.
When we get him back though, yes the DL will be much stronger and the rotation will be much better and that
will not only fix some of the DL's problems but also help with the younger LB'rs.

Yeah, BSD isn’t really known for “insider information” so it’s probably just speculation

Do not expect Tommy or Shane back this week, nor next week. If they play it is because the medical staff has cleared them 100%. Franklin puts a lot of trust in the medical staff because there is no way he is jeopardizing a player's health for a win or two.

FWIW, Tommy appears in 2 of the practice photos that are posted on the front page of this site. Not shown taking a snap, but in uniform, talking with Trace in one shot, and talking with Rahne in another. I'm guessing he participated in practice.

If so thats at least something for the upcoming weeks. But doubtful for this game.

Yep... I'll stick with my gut. I do not see either Tommy or Shane playing this week. If the reports out of practice are accurate and Clifford was with the 2nd team, that should tell you something. Also, reports indicate improvement from last week to this week, and the staff may feel they're good to go without either Tommy or Shane. Would I love to see them play, hell yes! do I expect it? nope.

If they don't play on Saturday, I doubt they play against KSU either since it is a short week with the Illinois game being Friday night.

Missing Tommy for this game has little to do with being the #2 QB. It has more to do with him being the "Lion".

honestly, the 4th quarter meltdown against App State had as much to do with the anemic offense as the faltering defense (and let's admit it, some phenomenal throws by the App State QB!)

With Stevens in the game, I don't think this happens. He creates the dynamic on every offensive set that keeps the defense from "cheating". He can run, he can catch, he can pass, and he can block. You cannot honestly defend him from the line of scrimmage.

Tommy will suit up but not scheduled to play in the "Lion" position. Would only be used in an emergency backup role at QB.

This according to my brothers father-in-law who heard it from his cousin Vinny who talked to the girlfriend of the guy that lives across the hall from Tommy.

Hey, I know that guy he’s a solid source of information.

When did scoring 38 in regulation become “ anemic “ ?

Neither got a mention in the Wed. practice report .
Not picking on you, but that's incorrect (re: Stevens)

"While they did not participate while the media was there, Tommy Stevens, Justin Shorter, and Nick Bowers were all out there in their pads. It looked as if they had gotten reps earlier in the practice. " from RLR

Yea I should have been more clear I meant participate, at least with Stevens.
I don't think it means much that they were there in pads. JMO.

Doubt it. But would be nice to see him suit up.

There should be no confusion.....Franklin can choose not to use a player once that player has been cleared by the training/medical staff.
Coach does not have a voice in when an injured player is cleared to participate.
