Over the 5 years post-"sanctions": PSU has beaten 4 teams that finished the year with 3 or fewer losses.

In the previous 14 years combined (before the "sanctions"): PSU had beaten 3 teams that finished the year with three or fewer losses.

With the critiques of Billy O and CJF - and the "signature win" crowd (which I guess includes "some" people :) )..........Just sayin' :)

What's your point? that we may not win another game against teams with 3 or fewer loses?

My interpretation: Since imposition of sanctions Penn State FB teams have held their own under the leadership of O'Brien and Franklin and to the credit of dedicated student-athletes.

Well, of course we should thank goodness for Surma, Erickson, Peetz, Emmert, Delaney, and those terrific, eye-opening, culture-changing, completely deserved sanctions.

They certainly put us on the righteous path to football greatness by..... uh.... because.... hmmmm..... well, you know, because they are superior people in all ways to us and our outrageous culture.

Or something like that where they knew best and we were and remain clueless.
At least one of the Bobs should be outraged over this.

Thank you, Temple?

But seriously, what is the count of teams with 3 or fewer losses (and their complement) in the two periods? Did you include only pre-bowl records in each period?

Good statistic. Evidence that we were not reaching our full potential in the late 90s to early 2010s time period.

That's surprising if true, especially since PSU won a lot of games in the half dozen years leading up to the sanctions.
2005 - 11 wins
2006 - 9 wins
2007 - 9 wins
2008 - 11 wins
2009 - 11 wins
2011 - 9 wins

Of course 3 of those 4 post sanction wins came this year (Temple, OSU, & Wisconsin). I'm very excited about the future of PSU football but 1 year isn't exactly a streak. Let's hope we can keep it up.

Interesting, and 3 of the 4 happened this season (Temple, Ohio State, Wisconsin).
Leads me to wonder about some more context around this -
- How many teams with 3 or fewer losses did we play?
- Did you count total record, or regular season including any conference title games?
- How many times were there just 3 losses other than a loss to PSU? (e.g. if we beat USC, they are a 3 loss team heading in to the bowl, and we would be their 4th loss).
- How does that compare to other B1G teams? Other P5 teams?

Oops, actually I hadn't counted Temple (Mea culpa)......did they finish with 3 losses?

If so, add one to the "post sanction" column

It is true .......and you can look it up - so I don't know why you would question it? o_O

Lots of wins, but in 14 years (since 1998) just 3 wins total against teams with 3 or fewer losses

Those "signature wins" - LOL - don't come around like penny candy........but more frequently since the sanctions than before

5 in 5 years (assuming Temple finishes w 3 losses) vs 3 in 14

I wasn't counting Temple (I think they have to win their bowl game to qualify).......the others before this year were NW in 2012 and SDState in 2015
