he is staying on the team. Why does he stay, but Pribula goes? What if Stone tears up his knee, who will want him? I reckon SMU is paying him big bucks to stick around. And I reckon that SMU will try their best to knock Allar out of the game….Thoughts?

#12 qb in the portal vs #30.

One has a million dollar offer on the table.

You ever walk away from a million?

Either Beau was told to leave immediately by the staff after broaching the subject, or else Beau is choosing to be "extra", while other QBs like SMU's or Ohio State's feel that waiting is OK.

Hopefully the fanbase can move past the Pribula topic soon, because it's really a ton of "Blah Blah Blah".

Setting aside the "million dollar offer on the table" part, where are you getting these rankings from? SMU's backup had pretty decent numbers in 2023, and Pribula has a pretty small sample size.

Yeah, it sucks, but time to move on from the subject. It is what it is. On the flipside, Allar is coming back next year when he could’ve left for the NFL. You win some and you lose some.

They aren't going to try to injure Allar lol
And, no, SMU isn't paying their backup to stay--he just wants to be a part of it and knows his options for the portal will come after other guys determine what they're doing.

It’s my opinion that Pribula may have hurt himself by not playing.

Suppose we go deep in the playoffs. Win at least the first two in which we will be favored (assuming we win the first which is never guaranteed). That playoff experience will make him a better QB.

It gives him great experience on pressure games, experience on how to prepare. Would earn him immediate respect with new teammates and coaching staff.

Of course there is injury risk. But you if you life by avoiding risks you aren’t playing big time football to begin with. The benefits outweigh the risks. Besides….thats what insurance is for.

Beau made the best choice for himself, same as you or I would do. Anyone faulting him is just selfish. I'm sure the teams out there looking for a QB in the portal have a limited number of QB's they are considering, and if he stayed, some of them would have been filled before the playoffs ended.
I think Franklin said the same thing or something similar.

Those 10-20 snaps weren't going to make him a better QB. I get what you're saying and agree on the experience of being in a playoff but he gets about 5 meaningful snaps a game

Agreed...but why did he blame the NCAA instead of saying this.

It's nothing until we need a back up QB in the playoffs.

Situations vary for every player. It is like comparing apples and oranges.

Agreed. Any team that is currently looking for a QB wants one TODAY, not in a few weeks. They can work with Beau's agent if he's still playing, but the other QBs that aren't playing will be available to meet with and talk to other teams and sign immediately, and they will have a lower risk of injury.

What if Beau entered the portal but said he would stay with Penn State through the playoffs, and then tomorrow he gets a great offer from another school? Does he have to turn them down? Does he say wait until I play these next few games? Or does he walk out on his team after taking all those reps this week? None of those are good options. I think he made the right call.

He had until the 28th to manage the hypothetical situations you mentioned.

The problem isn't that he has extra time to make a decision, it's that other QBs can freely move right now and take spots that won't be available later. It is the NCAAs fault and that's what Franklin addressed. Beau is being forced to leave the team now or wait until later and see what the leftovers are. The portal shouldn't open (from a football standpoint) until the season is done for everyone. From a school POV, kids need to enroll by a certain point to be eligible to practice in the spring. The whole system needs to be reexamined -- but first we need to decide if they are students or athletes first

I think they are ultimately going to be employees. Unfortunately, that the only way to fix this.

247 Portal. You can look up by position group. Each site will have a little different ranking but you get the point.

Pribula has or is taking visits to Iowa, Indiana, UCF and Missouri. He has interest from B10, SEC, B12 and probably ACC too.

They all have the same options...they can pick any option they want but let's not pretend Beau didn't have the ability to be here this weekend

No they dont. Everyone has different options. Some are offered the starting QB job at Alabama and some will end up D2.

True but this is about the options on when they can leave. Beau had options. Blaming the NCAA is insincere and also inaccurate with what he said.

Of course guys are being paid--like Abdul Carter and Tyler Warren should absolutely be paid for staying and competing during the playoff putting their future at risk. I'm sure Colorado and Miami are paying their stars a ton of cash. Of course, some bench guys would want paid to stay because they're not relevant to a playoff run.

Listened to every word. Nothing in here indicates SMU is paying Stone a penny to stay. As they have other guys on their roster (Luster for starters) more than capable to run a QB scout team. If anything, this makes Beau look worse because it indicates he just wanted cash, right? Not sure why they'd be paying him but if they want to that's awesome.

Not a single starter has opted out for the draft. Not a single starter has transferred. When Beau is the biggest name of guys who left because he played 5 snaps against Oregon it's a non-issue right now.

I understand people hate the players now have control but why shouldn't they? Countless programs, including obviously Penn State, have made money off the players for decades. Right?

Lando lets think of it this way. PSU is finally on the door step of gaining a National Championship. Fans have spent millions of dollars supporting this team and the valuable backup QB leaves for the portal 1 week prior to a playoff game. Everybody is making money and the paying fans are left out in cold. We are being played.

Its a backup QB though...if Carter or Warren or Allar opted out I'd be right there with you but the kids deserve to be paid for all the do and there's nothing wrong with leaving to have a better chance to play. Beau had the option to stay and didn't. If we win a title that's on him for the rest of his life.

Beau is by far the biggest name that left any playoff team and he'd have played a handful of snaps at most. I look at it like he's injured and not available.

I get the frustration. I do. The only options though are to embrace it or give up watching the sport.

I’m sure there was a little percentage of frustration in his decision to leave rather than play another game or so. It wasn’t 100% a business decision.

Thanks for making my point
Unless your point is that losing Pribula is a nothing burger, and that we don't need him, then I don't think my statement proves the point that you think it proves.

Tired of this discussion, Beau made his decision, I respect it, wish him luck, it’s the nature of the current college football beast, move on..

I’m sure the team has.
