Iowa and Okie State are wrestling OUTDOORS before Iowa football game Nov 14.

Brazilian [prediction model] says snow in Chicago.

BRAZIL? Really? Weather for cast 2 months away? Chicago is not next to Iowa City btw..

Of course forecasts for a specific day can change between now and then.

However, unless there is an unseasonal warm snap in mid-November, Iowa is likely to have some pretty chilly and perhaps windy weather. Interesting if true, that they've scheduled an outside match.

LOL - How easy is it to wrestle in a parka and snow boots?

Guessing they probably have some sort of contingency plan, to wrestle inside, if the weather doesn't cooperate.

Isn't the contingency plan named Carver-Hawkeye Arena?

Are they planning on selling more than 15k tickets for this?

If so, I would be pissed if I bought a ticket and all of a sudden they're out some fifty-thousand seats.

Admittedly, I don't know the logistics behind sales other than the plan is to break the attendance record.

From Iowa Athletic Communications...

The first 15,000 tickets sold will have reserved seating at Carver-Hawkeye Arena should the dual move indoors. Tickets purchased after the first 15,000 will be redeemable for an adult admission ticket to any other home dual on the Hawkeyes’ 2015-16 schedule.

So pick one of the Iowa City duals (Cornell College, Grand Canyon, Iowa Central, Maryland), South Dakota State, Rutgers, Purdue, Minnesota, or Indiana.

I'd personally pick Minnesota as head and shoulders above the others. What if everyone left out in the cold (pun intended) thinks the same?

Let's hope it doesn't snow, wouldn't want too many ornery Hawk fans.

I was actually thinking of hitting a road trip to Iowa City to see the event. I haven't been to IC since 2001 for a PSU football game (or maybe it was 2002). I wasn't even thinking of a contingency plan for weather. It would certainly suck to go from Austin to Dallas to IC and then be turned away at the match if I was ticket 15,001. I would guess there still would be plenty of tickets to buy outside the CHA though. I hope they have it outside, as that would be an awesome event

With two traditional powers, wouldn't it likely be a pretty quick sellout crowd for the indoor match?

Yeah but if I understand it, you buy tickets for the outdoor event. Probably 50k tickets will be sold ahead of time with the hope that it is nice weather in Kinnick stadium. Then, you show up in IC on Friday night and the plan changes to have the event inside which only holds 15k people with the priority probably not being me. So, the you are in IC to see and be part of a major wrestling event and all you can do is bit the bars and go to the Iowa/Mn football game. Or sneak up to the Amana colonies and party like a rock star. I think the key is if you are coming from out of town is to make certain your ticket is priority for the indoor match if bad weather hits. It would be a great event to attend outside for certain

I believe I read on some release issued that all ticketholders of the Kinnick meet will be notified in a reasonable amount of time whether to expect bad weather or not. And i suspect they will have a pretty good idea what the weather will be like 2-4 days before the event to give them ample time to make a decision, I doubt the meet would be moved indoor the night before unless a freak blizzard comes and snows through the night.

Can you tell us more about these Amana colonies you speak of?

As mentioned, there will be roughly 15,000 tickets sold that will have the assured spot in CHA if the dual were to be moved. Other tickets purchased will be redeemable to another dual. You should be able to tell what ticket you have, if not it's pretty easy to call the ticket office.

As for showing up and then the dual getting moved, while weather men aren't perfect, they are pretty good at their jobs. If they are projecting snow all week and/or the temps look like they are projected to be below freezing, as a fan you should probably be aware and know in the back of your mind that the dual may be moved.

It's pretty easy.

Not necessarily. Iowa leads the country yearly in attendance, but rarely is a sellout. Remember, their venue holds more than twice what Rec Hall holds. Here's their top 25 attendances all-time.

ummmm outside the national champs coming to town they havn't had a top 25 in the past 7 years

See #'s: 23, 8, 6 (the single event you mentioned), 2, and 1. I believe those are all within the last 7 years, no?
missed 23, included 8 in the 7 years, and 6 is the Natl Champs coming to town as I pointed out (the one exception). Regardless, would hope one would see the general point...

When this decade did Oklahoma State win a national title? Pretty sure not in either 2011 or 2012 (didn't the school covered by this message board win both of those years?)

I missed it CLion. About the only time we really get our drink on is http://www.festivalsinamana.com/oktoberfest.html
Jaybird,

Now that is what I'm talking about!! Excerpts from your link below. Nothing like drinking until the keg is kicked, slamming Brat's, throwing the empty keg around, grabbing a saw to knock off a log, and then jam down with Becky and the Dutchman. Again, a typical Saturday in Eastern PA (home).

Official Keg Tapping Ceremony
2:00PM Friday-
The Burgermeister taps the first keg at the Festhalle Barn & offers “ein Prosit” followed by free beer until the keg is empty.

4:00PM Saturday- Eisenmann Contest
2:30PM Saturday- Brat Eating Contest
2-4PM Saturday- Keg Toss
2-4PM Saturday- Log Sawing

12-3:30pm: Barefoot Becky & the Ivanhoe Dutchman

Will there be special wrestling moves for an outdoor Mid-November wrestling match?

An ankle grab takedown becomes an "Ice Pick"?

If it is not sub 30 raining or snowing they will wrestling this outside. I know several guys that have went on international trips where they talk about wrestling in gyms where they can see their breath. They warmup inside. They will have heaters that the football teams use for the bench close to the mats. They will be fine.

It is a gamble but what is the worst that can happen to a Hawk fan that doesn't get in if they move it to Carver? Start tailgating a little earlier for the football game. Most of the people above the 15k are probably football fans / marginal wrestling fans wanting to be part of the outdoor event. If it is not in Kinnick they probably will not have their hearts broken if they don't get into Carver.

The worst is the Hawk wrestling fans and other wrestling fans that travel/or make arrangements to travel to IC specifically for this event are outta luck and dough. A lot of non locals are planning.

The worse thing that can happen to a Hawk fan... is to be a Hawk fan. I could think of nothing worse. o_O

The worse thing that can happen would be to be amalone. All signs point at you being a miserable human being.
No... I'm thrilled to be me. :) I can't wait until Penn State wins another National title in 2016. I'm thrilled for that prospect and you getting to watch it with me hanging out here.
