So Fleetwood Mac fired Lindsey Buckingham

Fleetwood Mac had a long history before Lindsey Buckingham. Peter Green, Jeremy Spencer, Danny Kirwan and Bob Welch were the guitarists before Buckingham was hired to be the guitar player after Welch left the group. He insisted on bringing along Stevie Nicks as a package deal, otherwise he wouldn't join, and the rest is history.

can this be done? I mean, isn't that like Sonny from Sonny & Cher? is there really a Fleetwood Mac without Buckingham?

Which part of Fleetwood (Mick Fleetwood) and Mac (John McVie and Christine McVie) is Lindsay Buckingham? I imagine it's fairly simple to fire him, but also rather sad. He can now tour on his own again as he has done in the past.

They demand a huge price for tickets. I don't understand the desire by some to spend hundreds to see 70 year olds on stage, but Fleetwood Mac tickets were expensive.

I've never really been a Mac fan. Some of their music is good, but I don't put them on a high level like most. Having said that, Buckingham has been part of Mac since 1974. To me, LB is part of FM, without him they are Van Halen without David Lee Roth (a much lesser entity).

Fleetwood Mac has been through many iterations over the years, none equal to the original, but some pretty good nonetheless. They are driven by one of the greatest engine rooms in either rock or blues, Mick Fleetwood and John McVie.

Well they were Fleetwood Mac before they picked up Buckingham, so you'd have to say that they're still Fleetwood Mac without him. They also did just fine without him for over a decade from the mid-80's to the mid-90s, so there's precedent. Now if Stevie leaves, that would be a different question.

Actually, given that the original was without Stevie Nicks and Buckingham, I'd argue that.

Not exactly. He was gone for a decade from the mid-80s to the mid-90s (replaced by Billy Burnette). Given that you didn't seem to notice that, I'm guessing they'll be just fine without him.

feel free- I'll take the original lineup, one of the best British blues outfits ever -over a nice pop/rock band which is what the Buckingham/Nicks lineup was.

The worst lineup was the post Danny Kirwin lineup with Bob Welsh as guitarist and singer, imo- couldn't stand that era.

Well, first, I am not a big fan of FM. Second, I wouldn't say that FM was El Fuego in that span of time.

is Fleetwood Mac even relevant in 2018? Other than playing some casino's, what new music are they playing that anybody listens too?
Ridiculous. They have a whole library of hugely popular music. Your comment is like saying that Renoir paintings aren't relevant because they were painted well over 100 years ago. Art is art and good music always stands the test of time.

Meh. Great song writer. Average guitarist
I like his playing- mostly. But I know a lot of other guitarists who don't. He's certainly not conventional. But I don't know anybody who thinks he's in Peter Green's class as a player.

saw them in the late 70s at the old Pitts Civic Arena. had tickets in second row. They had like this passageway leading to the stage made from the road cases and there was an upright craftsman tool case. And Stevie Nix would go back there, pull out top drawer and put her face down there and snort I assume cocaine (given the year). She did a bunch right before singing Landslide and could see when she came up to microphone had a big gagger going down and when she got to the chorus she completely flubbed the lines and looked all confused and distracted, So they keep playing come back around to chorus and again we were so close could see confused look on her face and she totally dropped the lines again. So Mic Fleetwood gets up and walks up and puts arm around her and helps her finish the song. Was John McVie birthday and he was smoking these giant joints, again so close to stage could smell him exhale and he would puff on it and walk over to drum riser and sort of let it drop out of his mouth. How is this relevant to Lindsey Buck being being fired? Its not, but just an amusing live moment in Fleetwood Mac's drug addled history

Lindsey is so terrific he is being replaced by two people: Mike Campbell from the Heartbreakers and Neil Finn from Crowded House. So the band is now Fleetwood Heartbreakers Crowded House Mac!

Loved the Peter Green lineup of Fleetwood Mac’s cover of Black Magic Woman.....

I know Fleetwood Mac wrote and performed the song. It just really sounds like a Santana song.

Not a cover by Fleetwood Mac, but an original written by Peter Green.

Oh Well. You must have seen the Green Manalishi coming and panicked when writing that.

There's a Rolling Stone list of the 10 greatest Fleetwood Mac songs, beginning with "Gypsy" and ending with "Go Your Own Way."

Nine of the 10 were written by Nicks and Buckingham (and, really, mostly just Nicks)

I don't think we'd be having this thread today if not for the Stevie Nicks. And Nicks never would have been in the band if she hadn't been in a relationship with Buckingham, and Rumours wouldn't have happened without the two of them writing about their relationship falling apart.

I'm not a musician, but I really enjoy Lindsey's playing because it is unconventional. I have several of his solo albums as well.

True, but for the record, the band was formed by Peter Green. He recruited Mick as the first member. McVie didn't actually join for a few months (they were all in Mayalls blues breakers). I believe they included "Mac" in the band name to entice McVie to join.

Christine didn't join until around 69 or so.

I would love to know the thought process behind these popular old bands touring for decades on end on the support of their oldies but goodies. That's not a putdown. I'm genuinely curious. Is the rush of being on stage with all those people cheering that strong? Do they piss away all their money and then must tour for more? Are they already mega-rich but just want more? Or what?

They say Mike Campbell of the Heartbreakers and Neil Finn of Crowded House is going to replaced Buckingham. First of all, Crowded House's first album was fantastic. And secondly, I googled Mike Campbell and I didn't realize that he wrote or co-wrote not only so many Petty/Heartbreakers songs but also others, such as "The Boys Of Summer" and "The Heart Of The Matter" by Don Henley and the Petty/Nicks duet of "Stop Draggin' My Heart Around." And he played on and produced a lot of other stuff too. The dude is pretty prolific.

Name something that was good from Fleetwood Mac during that phase (post-Tango’)

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

UH HUH, yeah

A quick youtube search on LBs solos has this as the top result. It's good playing, but really nothing amazing. He likes to use a lot of repeated phrasing to build the energy, which is nice, but nothing really technically difficult.

If I recall, you are a VH fan. Eddie would play circles around LB (and I'm not a big VH guy).
