So...how do we match up with OSU wrestling?

I assume we have to escape the lower weights without TF and F and need to get some bonus points from our mid 5....some of which will be very tight matches. OSU will be strong at the heavier weights...again have to avoid losing by TF or F. How do you see it playing out?

Going to be a battle for sure. The match will come down to 174 and 184. We win both we win. We split we might win, we lose both don't see how we win.

Agree; even though PSU is putting out national champs at 174 and 184, both matches should be closely contested. Martin of tOSU at 184 is always dangerous, and is said to be improved this year.

PSU has upset potential at 141 and 197 (long shot) in my opinion.

Will be a great match if everyone wrestles. I'm guessing for us no worse than 5-5 and with a bonus point advantage Penn State keeps the win streak going. Lee win at 141 would be a big plus. I'd give them 125, 133, and heavyweight and PSU 149, 157, 165. The other 4 could go either way but I'd never pick against Bo or Hall especially at home......Penn State 20 Ohio State 19

Everyone may have a different opinion..... but in a dual meet I'd give PSU a slight edge (maybe winning as many as 7 of the 10 matches - more likely getting a narrow win with 6 wins...IMO).

In a tourney structure though, OSU has to be the favorite (they have a couple weights where they should have HUGE point advantages over PSU..... 125# being exhibit A).
Whereas in the weights where PSU has the edge, there is usually an OSU wrestler right on their heels - and not a lot of point advantage to be gained even if the PSU wrestler wins the crown.

I think PSU can get them at Nationals - but they are going to need some significant point contributions from some key guys (Lee, Nevills, and whomever goes at 197 - - - I assume Rasheed, by the way he is racking up bonus point wins right now). And, obviously, they top 5 guys have to avoid upsets along the way.

I have the exact opposite opinion. I feel OSU can potentially beat PSU in a dual but I think PSU has the advantage in a tournament. PSU now seems like they have a legit 141LB wrestler and it seems that they should have a 197LB wrestler that can score more points at Nationals than McCutcheon did last year. Remember, last year PSU had Nationals won before the championship round started with getting 0 points at 125 and 133 and only getting a few points at 141. In other words, all 5 of PSU's champions last year could have lost and PSU still would have won so it's not like PSU needs to have all 5 wrestlers repeat as champions in order to win again.

you have it backwards .... although I still think we will win the dual as well

Nobody(besides PSU obviously) had a team last year that comes close to Ohio State this year though.

It's threads like these that make me wish there was a wrestling board on this site.
A reasonable point, but perhaps tongue in cheek? Look at the thread titles overall on this page:
Nassar, book review, Wawa vs Sheetz, John Wayne movies, Oscar nomination, etc. mixed in with some recruiting news; a discussion about a PSU sports season in progress (wrestling) is more relevant than many other topics in football's off-season

I hope not - because, even as solid as those guys are, that will be incredibly unlikely (5 champs).

Long way until NCAAs.... but just some off the top of the head "could be"s (IMO)

125 OSU outpoints PSU by 25 (although Tomasello's last match made it look like he could get knocked off again at nationals. How hard will Penn Stater's be rooting for Suriano? Keeping Tom asello from the top spot would be huge :) )

OSU up 25

133 OSU gains another 15 points (not sure if PSU will even get a guy to nationals)

OSU up 40

141 Critical weight. If Lee keeps wrestling like this, could project to a ~10 point pick up for PSU.

OSU up 30

149 Hard to imagine Zain losing, and KeShawn Hayes seems very "up and down". Could be a gain of 5-6 points for PSU....or a gain of 20 or more. I'll go with a 15 point PSU edge.

OSU up 15

157 Jordan is tough (though I think he just lost to Kemmerer, who will likely be Nolf's toughest competition). If Nolf keeps rolling, a 10-15 point pick up for PSU.

OSU up 5

165 Would be really nice to see Vincenzo beat IMar again. I'll hedge my bets a little and say a 15 point pick up for PSU

PSU up 10

174 Outstanding wrestlers for both squads - could very well meet head to head at some point in the champions bracket. I'll give Hall the nod, PSU gains 5 points.

PSU up 15

184 Martin is tough, but Nickal is better. Scary weight - with Nickal's proclivity to wrestle on the edge of chaos. But I'll go PSU by 5 points.

PSU up 20

197 and Heavy Its all about how close the PSU guys can stay to Moore and Snyder (who are beasts). If Rasheed and Nevills can each get to the "middle of the podium" (4-5-6 ish) they can limit OSU's advantage at each weight - - - but that is a tough task.

Heart says Rasheed and Nevills keep it close enough, Head says OSU puts up big numbers at 197 and Heavy and pulls out a close win.

Either way, every point, every match is going to be huge.
Pletcher hugely overrated. Even if Keener just scores 2-3 points, Pletcher isn’t getting 17+.

Yes, I think Norm was a little pessimistic with 125 and 133.
It could be OSU +40 if EVERYTHING goes OSU's way.
It could also be OSU +20 with a couple 3rd or 4th place finishes for OSU. I'll say it will be closer to 20 than 40 at those weights

Given my professional background - it is critical to find every potential obstacle, and address it, in order to stay alive (or, now, to stay "well").....
so pessimism, as you call it (though I refer to it as "cynical optimism") is a natural state of being.

Obviously - lots and lots of variables..... but there is a reason INTERMAT (and others) have OSU as the favorite at nationals, and the #1 ranked tourney team (and why some are talking about the possibility of 10 AAs in the OSU lineup).

There are also reasons why PSU has won 6 of the last 7 titles - and has 5 returning champs on the roster. And those reasons are compelling as well.

Put it all together, and it could be one of the most intense two-team races in NCAA history (or not :) ..... lots of variables)

Most of those rankings for tournament don’t include bonus and turn dramatically with bonus included.

You can bet whomever OSU has at 149 and 157, they will be on their bicycle. Its an art form to run away for 7 minutes and make it look like one is not.

OSU being touted as number one is an affront to this team. This will spur effort in the close matches. We win 6-7 matches. Talk is cheap. The Lions are number one until someone beats them. Listening to B1G meet announcers tout OSU as number one is disgusting. Screw the B1G.

Highly doubt that O$U AA's at 165.

Highly doubt that O$U AA's at 165.

He's borderline...but he's better than Ryan's son...who seems as if he was effectively squeezed out of their lineup by Jordan bumping up and Campbell transferring in.

How'd you like to have that talk with your kid. "Son, you can't carry Nolf's jock, so we're bumping Jordan up and bringing in a transfer from Pitt."

I would like to go but my friend says it is at Rec Hall and sold out. How can I get a pair of tickets and what would the cost be?

ticketsnow.com is the official seller of Penn State Wrestling re-sale tickets. Many are available there; not too pricey.

Thanks Limestone and Leal. Looks like $100 to $225 each. More than I was hoping to spend as I was going to grab a ticket for my buddy. Do you think prices on these sites will trend down or up closer to the match? Are there scalpers outside the arena game day?

Not listed for TV right now, any chance it gets picked up?
