And a discussion starts about the Minny footballers taking a stand and boycotting team activities. One particular colleague, who has been all about hammering JVP for the past 5 yrs makes a comment, "I agree with the players. If their is no concrete evidence against them, just allegations, they should protest." So I immediately chime in..."So you are saying if their is no concrete proof, just something that may have happened, they should be allowed to play?" He said yes....I then stated, "And that goes for everyone, correct?" He then knew exactly where I was headed and I didn't back off..."But one Joseph Vincent Paterno isn't allowed those rights is he! What PROOF was there that he ever knew or covered up about anything, but you have come out a hundred times and said he was guilty....that there is a MOUNTAIN of evidence saying so!" I then called him a hypocrite and walked away....

Good trap and great reply, brother.

That's when you make it known to him, firmly, he's a grade A Douche.

And a prior "discussion" with this jackass was in the fall...he actually believed the kid from 1976. Again...no proof....just an allegation. He should become a BOT member!

I hear you. I've had many a conversation on the Joe subject. I gave up because people are too stupid to understand or too caught up in their own misery that they have no interest in understanding. It's just a waste of time and my blood pressure spikes. Not worth it.

But when something like you just described comes into play, I'd be all over that shit forcefully shoving crow down so and so's throat.

I'm sure the rebuttal will be along the lines of "joe was so powerful... these are just kids making bad decisions at Minn..."etc. Then they say it with a straight face and don't budge, pull shit out of their own ass and high five you with it all while you're the one that looks like the psychopath because the other people are too stupid or too proud to get it.

It's a no-win situation.

I love the "in person" confrontations. These idiots have no clue. One teacher I work with said Spanier and Curley (she doesn't care about Schultz) should go to jail even if all charges are dropped. Because they are guilty. Even if charges are dropped. I asked her if she'd like to go to jail without a trial for something she probably didn't do. She didn't back down. At least there were others around to hear this and called her out on it, and they basically called her a moron in front of colleagues.

Thankfully I haven't had one of these discussions in awhile. Although earlier this week, a coworker was trying to bait me into an argument at a holiday party by stating that Penn State should not even be allowed to play in a bowl game.

All well and good but you compromised yourself by walking away. You had him dead to rights. If you had an audience you should've stayed and pressed him.

I think we've all run into that guy at some point. Glad you were able to shut him up.

I am quite certain his next response would have been well, "JVP was the most powerful man in the state", or, "He's the head coach he had to know"....I have already been thru both of those scenarios with this guy. As it was I was actually on my way to a meeting, I would have stayed.

Face it, human nature means you twist in the direction of your feelings for the individual(s) involved. Guaranteed this person has zero investment in Minnesota players or the university while having some bug up their arse about PSU. Probably wasn't accepted or went to a school with a crappy sports program.

There is only one additional thing you should have done ...

Nice job, bkmn1. Not only is there a lack of evidence that Joe conspired to cover up Jerry's behavior, but there is a mountain of evidence that Paterno met his reporting duty by reporting to Tim Curley and then TOOK IT A BIG STEP FURTHER by engaging the Head of Police, and later followed up with Mike McQueary.

I think a big point of polarization is the general belief that Mike McQueary told Joe that he witnessed Jerry Sandusky raping a boy. To the people who believe that, their minds are made.

Yesterday I was speaking to a guy who said he felt PSU recovered from the sanctions too quickly. He said they even want to honor JoePa. I didn't tell him I was a Penn Stater and said the players had nothing to do with Jerry and I have no problem with "them" honoring Joe. I said we should be careful about scapegoating the whistleblower like the media did to Joe, otherwise people will be afraid to do the right thing (or getting involved at all) as Joe did in 2001.

You can always refer to the claimant's own lawyer.

Lately, I have been doing a lot of reading about "confirmation bias" and the way we process information. You can present a mountain of contrary evidence to your hypocritical colleague he/she will never re-examine his/her opinions of PSU & JVP.

Mission accomplished PA AG, Corbett, Fina, Freeh, Lubert, Silvis, Heim, Peetz, Raykovitz, Maaser, Suhey, Joyner, Erickson, Emmert, Delaney, Surma, Garban, Junker, et al....Mission Accomplished in deed. I wish eternal torment on each and every one of you.
Confirmation bias was the entire game plan of the OAG in the Sandusky Case.
