So the SEC wants to block Harbaugh's practices at IMG

Yankees!!!

FWIW, the following is a quote that I received while I was doing some work in the deep south (south GA, AL and western FL)...."You Yankee carpetbaggers have been coming down here and plaguing our people for hundreds of years. You should just stay up north where you belong!" I laughed my a$$ off!!!. I will never forget that.

Just when you think the old times and attitudes are gone.

The guy must have liked you. It's usually Damn Yankee!

I think this requires me going down to Alabama to slap Greg Sankey upside the head.

Personally I believe this will be very telling on where the " power shift" is happening withhe NCAA and the conferences of SEC and Big10...

If SEC rules out and Harbaugh not allow dthis camp.., SEC remains top dog... If Harbaugh wins and even if allowed to hold camp this year but NOT in the future.,, BIG10 regardless is the new Top Dog.

Note: I've mentioned before Notre Dame at Hong all of this very closely as originally it was their idea to look into this in the first place... Harbaugh while visiting IMG heard about it and jumped all over the idea....

I never root for the SEC, but this will be an exception
Honest question not trolling but why does Michigan going to Florida for some spring practices bother you so much? The SEC also doesn't want satellite camps that Franklin and Harbaugh both did. I'm just wondering what the big issue is. If it was any other team would it be a problem. Thanks in advance for your thoughts.

The further we move away from "college" football the less I like it. So that is part of my reaction-the more we allow coaches to push the envelope the more they will. It's not their job to set the limits, it's ours- as fans of the college game-or what's left of it. Call that 80% of my concern.

The other part is that I hate Harbaugh, and Michigan. Call that the other 20%.

Fair answers. Thanks.

Just like we already know that O$$$$$$$$U and scUUUMMM are ordained to be the ore favored children in the B1G "family", me thinks Delaney & Co are going to learn where they "rank" in the eyes of the NCAA.

I personally hope the NCAA rules against scUM and the B1G. Delaney will focus his almost laser focus on outing Emmert. The enemy of my enemy....

Yes - how a black athlete can ever choose an SEC or Texas school is beyond me after all of the historical issues and maybe some prevailing attitudes. Eff those redneck confederates, why fund their coffers

I got a very similar welcome at my first job in Virginia. "Carpet baggers coming down from up North! "
I replied simply "hey, I'm just coming down to do the jobs you Southerners can't be educated to do"....kinda shut up after that.

I'm sure hairball wouldn't mind if saban or miles wanted to have their teams train in Michigan. That seems fair.

I lived in Alabama for 3 years. My buddies would say, "you're a Yankee, but at least you're not from California". HA

Considering your dislike of the SEC I must complement your objectivity. Of course, that dislike of the SEC may be offset by your hatred of Harbaugh and Michigan, which says a lot about its depth.

A yankee is predictable and therefore preferable over a crazy Californian which is not. Simple concept. Unfortunately since the state is doing very well in technology and manufacturing we must tolerate the influx of both.

I feel your pain.

In all honesty I am sure he would make that tradeoff without even blinking an eye or even having to hear the entire proposition. It wouldn't even be worth it for Alabama. I certainly am not rooting for Harbaugh or Michigan but this would be a win for the teams especially in the B10 that want to shift the power in the country a little and we are one of the schools that can benefit from this becoming an established edge the most.

Some current Bama players might want to transfer out if Saban did that to them. ;)

Of course.

"Hey, Nick. It's Jim. I hear you're not happy about my team coming down to IMG this spring. I'll tell you what. Why don't you bring your team up to Flint?"

:D

How is it any different that baseball teams going south for spring training?
Dan- the way I see the difference, most baseball, lacrosse, tennis, track teams etc go down there and play some games, while they are training, plus it is in their season. That's the difference.

EJD...I wish we would hold some of ours down at IMG...$cum will gain a huge advantage with all the "yankee" school boys who temporarily are on schollies at IMG, but hail from northern h.s.'s originally(eg.Delmarva area, Pa, NJ, etc.)...sure, let the SEC scream and rant and cuss us Yankees, while we run our practices in the fertile south.

I could not care less if Harbaugh has his players practice during Spring Break, but I believe the ONLY possible way he'd do so is if he could take them to FL or CA. My question is whether the NCAA would have a problem with a college team holding practices at a "regular" talent-rich high school. I think Harbaugh is getting a pass with this primarily because IMG Academy is not considered a HS in the normal sense, in that no kid goes there trying to get an academic scholarship to Harvard.

Southerner's tell me to go back to my own country and Northerner's call me a European Socialist...which is worse?

To Bamasota without the influx you would have been unable to do either. Big problem in evaluating location of facilities to Alabama was the lack of school systems both as a source of employees and for children of transferred management. Hopefully things have changed.

they have games. Who is UM playing this spring in football?
The Penn St baseball team went to Cuba in November over Thanksgiving and that's just one example. Last I checked Cuba doesn't play in the NCAA. Was that bad for the kids? They had to give up Thanksgiving and November is certainly not in baseball season.

Soccer teams often go to Europe as well. They tour and play games. This isn't soccer or baseball and UM does have indoor facilities to practice. The comparison to other sports is cute, but it's very transparent.

The soccer team can play indoors as well. So what is your point? If Michigan played some meaningless gameswhile in FL it would then be ok? They could scrimmage a lower division Team and you would be fine with it? Talk about being transparent! Your just jealous because Franklin didn't think of it first. The Penn St. baseball team went for over a week and only played a few exhibition games with non-college teams outside of their season. The rest of the time they practiced and they did it over the Thanksgiving week. Please tell me why that is fine and needed but what Michigan wants to do is not? They did not have to go to Cuba to play where, oh by the way, there just happens to be some pretty good baseball players which I am sure is a coincidence. As for the argument that the kids need some time off and it's horrible that Michigan is going to make them miss Spring Break, well in the case of Penn St. they missed Thanksgiving break and some school all during the off season.

It's a recruiting trip. It's not really for practice and the other two sports play games. Everyone knows what this is about. Hell Jim may sleep with some of the kids going to school there.

Teams are allowed to go on foreign tours every four years. Teams are not allowed to scrimmage against other teams. NCAA rules are clear on both matters.
