I watched Joe Lee dismantle Sammy Sasso at McDonogh Duals, when they were both 8th graders. He was the most impressive kid I saw at the tournament in January 2014. Both him and Nick are phenomenal gets. Congrats to PSU again.
Kyle Snyders tweet was funny. Hopefully he knows where Spencer is leaning and just trying to convince him to reconsider.
Born in PA, live in Indiana. Penn State just freaked me out by getting both Lee brothers from Evansville. Just wow. Nick Lee is just a beast and and take down machine. He just dominated his opponent in last State Championship. What a coup for Penn State! FYI, Chad Red is everything they say he is. Very special wrestler. It is Nick Lee and his brother Joe they are a package deal
Not me - talented kids who want to come here. I'm excited.I'm tepid on this because of their youth and the logistics & semantics surrounding Underclassmen Recruiting.
Our foobawl & hoopie bros like to make jokes about 'non-committable offers,' but that's kinda what these lads have done, isn't it? They've made a non-binding verbal commitment to a non-binding (presumed) verbal offer from Cael.
Functionally, what *is* a verbal offer from Cael to underclassmen? He's not allowed to visit them in person until July 1 between their JR & SR years, right? That's 7/1/16 for Nick & 7/1/17 for Joe. And he's not allowed to comment on who he's recruiting until they sign their National Letters of Intent, right? But say he sees them in a camp or talks to them on the phone, what does that verbal 'offer' sound like? I guess it doesn't *have* to admit that it's non-binding, but the kids sure need to understand that. From the team side, Cael/PSU are under no obligations to follow up from a 'verbal offer' with an actual written offer. If they change plans, the best the kids can hope for is what Thomas Haines got: a personal visit that conveys the intent to change plans.
And what's the benefit of this announcement from the kids' side? I gather from their letter that they'd like to temper the enthusiasm of non-PSU coaches who are recruiting them, but we know that doesn't stop, right? Other coaches can still lobby them verbally and can even appear at their house at 12:01a on July 1, 2016 to personally try to change their minds. They can't sign their NLI's until November of their SR years (or April if they miss the first window).
I don't know. On the one hand I can see *some* advantages of these early announcements, but on the other hand they seem really, really silly.
If these plans do come to fruition and Nick signs an NLI in November 2016 and Joe does the same in November of 2017, great! Both dudes seem like excellent additions. I'd guess I'll graduate from Tepid to Excited whenever those events come around.

Now that I could get excited about! You're always good with the vocab, Chickenman.
New headline: 'Talented Indiana High School Junior & Sophomore Brothers Announce They Want to Come to Penn State.'
Article Lede: 'Nick & Joe Lee, two very talented wrestlers from the state of Indiana, have written a public letter signifying they are interested in wrestling at Penn State University. It could be deduced from the language of the letter that PSU Head Wrestling Coach Cael Sanderson has extended to the boys some offer of a future athletic scholarship, although it is not explicitly stated that one was received. Other language in the letter indicates that both boys are so interested in Penn State at this time that they will eschew other athletic scholarship offers that may come in the future, despite it being 14 months at the earliest until Nick can bind himself to that interest by signing a National Letter of Intent to attend Penn State and 26 months until Joe can do so. Additionally, although the signing of an Athletic Scholarship Agreement by an athlete often accompanies the signing of the NLI agreement, any offer of any athletic scholarship that may have been extended to the boys remains non-binding to PSU and may be revoked at any time until the boys sign such an athletic scholarship agreement.
Although details of athletic scholarship amounts and conditions remain private between the athletes, their families and the school, it has been presumed, with wrestling's limit of 9.9 scholarships, that Penn State typically extends promises of partial scholarships that depend on one or more conditions heretofore unknown to the public. In addition to it being unknown if Penn State offered the boys any kind of scholarship at all, it is also unknown what percentage of a full scholarship may have been offered or what the conditions of such an offer may have included.
It should also be noted that the announcement of interest letter from the boys does not preclude other coaches or schools from contacting the boys via any channel except interpersonally, which is prohibited by all coaches until 12:01a.m. on July 1, 2016 for Nick & July 1, 2017 for Joe. All other coaches and schools have another 14 months to attempt to change Nick's mind and 26 months to change Joe's, attempts which could come via email, snail-mail, text or phone.
Despite the many things that the announcement does not do in any official, financial or binding capacity, the announcement does allow for excitement among the Penn State fanbase, as they now have two stud young wrestlers from out of state to whom they can pay attention and follow along in their growth."
