Some of the PWC match ups(Dapper Dan)

PWC website does not show PA team.

Article lists 9 WPIAL + Karam.

The 3 remaining spots are 120, 152, 195. Guessing Lenox, Hidlay, Jakobsen.

I like pletchers thoughts....thats what you want from your kids!

...District 11 had 7 AAA champions last weekend - 5 of whom were Seniors...
...only 2 are wrestling in the Dapper Dan...
...is the match using WPIAL guys to boost attendance...?

195 looks open...maybe Jacobsen goes there?

I think Klump may be too light to go 113.

Hidlay seems a lock at 152.

Maybe Charlie Lenox from Ft LeBoeuf AA state champ goes at 120. Would hate to take the 8th place AAA finisher at 120 (the only Sr in the top 8) over a state champ.

I'd rather see Young from Punxsy go 170. Then Hall could whoop on 2 Iowa recruits in 2 weeks

It's 6 SR champs from D11 if you include AA (why wouldn't AA be included?), and this is a specious claim. But let's go thru them one by one.

113: invited Gage Curry over Kevan Gentile, Tyson Klump. Curry is a 113 state finalist and American commit. Gentile and Klump both wrestled 106, neither is a college commit at any level. Bottom line, they're seniors, should've wrestled 113 instead of 106.

126: Karam invited.

132: invited Pletcher over Joey Gould. No brainer here.

195: Jakobsen presumably invited.

285: invited Beistel over Andrew Gunning. I might have taken Gunning, but this could've gone either way. Beistel has 1 more finals appearance than Gunning.

So exactly how is this selection for attendance?

...Curry finished 3rd... Klump won 2 AAA state titles...
...Gould won the AAA title @ 132 ...
...Phillippi won the AA title @ 138...
...Pletcher won AAA title @ 138... so they let Pletcher drop so the AA winner from the WPIAL could compete...

Curry finished 2nd last year to 3x champ Devin Brown. Why didn't Klump go 113? Even Brown found his way there. Seniors taller than Billy Barty should not go 106, ever. Unless they're ducking freshmen or sophomores, of course.

Hope you're not putting Gould over Philippi.

Thought Kevan Gentile, his family, and community deserved more respect than that post. You are better than this, you should have seen his match vs Busiello . Gentile is really good

Both Pletcher and Phillippi are 3x champs. Your argument regarding Gould does not hold water. On the other hand, your argument that a 2x champ in Klump (even if at 106) should get the 113 spot over Curry has some merit. Historically, the Wrestling Classic has shifted kids to different weights to try and get multi-time state champs into the line-up (even bumping kids up a weight, e.g. Diehl in 2013). Not sure why they did not do so here. Maybe they did favor WPIAL kids. Maybe Klump declined. Maybe since 106 is not contested, they decided not to invite 106 champs. Maybe they looked at Klump's record (65-19) the last two years vs. Curry (82-3) and felt Curry was the better rep. Who knows.

There is some merit to the WPIAL consideration at 113, attendance is part of the consideration.
With the weight allowances there is also the possibility the AA 106 champ was too little.

I'd rather see a state champ get a slot than a guy who never won. Even if you're taking a guy who won as a JR and didn't as a senior, at least they were a champ. I'm all for shifting some guys around to make sure you fill the lineup with state champs.

I really like Kevan Gentile. I know he's 106lbs, but he could probaby go 113lbs, so I'd rather see him there than Curry, to be honest. Pletcher and Phillippi is a no brainer. Two 3x champs.

Klump is an enigma to me. He's a 2x champ but if you look at him on paper he doesn't seem like a 2x champ. He's never had a truly dominant season.

The lineup this year is definitely strange. I don't remember seeing a lineup where there were 3 guys who were not PIAA State champs. On the flipside, there are three 3x champs. I would have rather they moved guys who were close to fill the lineup with state champs, though.

113 with Curry gives PA the best shot to win. Klump's results at 113 are not as good as Curry's. If Curry was able to get to 106, I'm sure he would win in a walk.

It's plus 7 at the wrestling classic, so it's 120. Makes no sense to have a 106 wrestling there.

Wish PA could have Manville, Reenan and Jordan Wood in the Lineup. The PA Lineup would be better with those 3 in it shuffled with the other great guys. What is with Wood, He injured?? I have not heard of him wrestling in a while? I saw he did not participate in States

Wood tore rib cartilage in his district final and was unable to participate at Regionals. Robb is pretty darn good also - not a huge drop off.

Hidlay is as good as Manville so that is not a loss for PA at 152. Reenan is a little small at 195, and Jakobsen is better than you think - I don't think we lost as much as one would think there. If he can avoid being dominated on his feet and get the match to the mat, I think Jakobsen can surprise.

The PWC/DD has a tough time with Sem wrestlers, as many of them are from out-of-state. The last Sem wrestler to participate in the classic was Eric Morris, who wrestled for PA in 2013. He was from PA, so that made sense. (He went on to Harvard.) I believe before that it was Terrence Jean, who wrestled for PA in 2011. I'm pretty sure he was from PA also, though he had gone to Haverhill (think that's Mass.) before attending Sem. (He then went on to Rutgers for a semester, before going to Iowa.) I don't recall any Sem wrestlers at DD for several years before that.

Sounds awesome, I look forward to seeing those guys in action

Thanks Tom for the Info, do you know where Reenan is from originally? I did think that Manvillle was originally from PA? Dice has me excited for the guys that are in their place and I guess it does not affect pa as much as I thought. Can't wait to watch....Love Dapper Dan. Last years Joseph match was awesome. I have to admit that I wish Hall was not coming, I will have to be neutral in my hopes for that match (though we all know Hall is a machine and is 100-1 favorite)

Reenan is from Texas. Manville is from Virginia.

IMO, Manville deserved to be the USA participant over Parriot, but probably splitting hairs. The other interesting decision is at 120, White over Lennox.

RUCreedo claims Manville is only allowed one exhibition a year. Besides he is currently packing for his big trip to dirty jerzy next week...............

has the 'direction' or purpose of the classic changed much from the Dapper Dan? New organization? Different goals?

A little intrigue for tonight: hearing a key Team USA participant missed weight.

A heads up ... I have another commitment, so I can't provide PBP or summaries for DD/PWC. So if you're watching and have the time, please post info about the matches.

all right " ptomaselli ".... I've agreed with your football posts in the past and now I read that you also have a good working knowledge of the worlds toughest sport. Way to go.
