1) John Reid is in Portland, doing an internship with Intel. What's up with that? I don't know, but it's awesome. Might as well turn a negative into a positive and I love our coach/program enables players to grow outside of football. Sounded like the door was left open for him to see some action this year, but not likely. Might as well use his redshirt.
2) I'm not sure if it was disclosed on what Blacknall and Bowen did to get suspended for the Rose Bowl, but I'm happy to hear to they have grown and learned from their mistakes. Franklin is right that with 105 18-22 year old kids, many are going to make mistakes. That's true with all programs and I hate when some PSU fans live in glass houses and go all holier than thou when kids from other programs get into trouble.
3) JoeMO came to the press conference with some Swagger. We need that, because PSU is not going to sneak up on anyone. Hope to see it unleashed on Pittsburgh, Iowa, Northwestern, and Michigan. I hope to see the offense improve on 3rd down conversions and not get into nearly as many third and long situations. (Cut down on negative plays)
4) Casto-Fields was mentioned as a Freshman turning some heads. I think him and Wade will be our future at the CB spots. These guys are going to make some game changing plays. With Isheem Young coming, you have to be excited about the future. Our secondary recruiting has really improved under Franklin.
5) Are we sleeping on Brandon Polk. I know it's easy to do since he didn't play last year, but I'm thinking he is going to have a impact this season. I see the top 5 wideouts being Hamilton, Juwan Johnson, Blacknall, Thompkins, and Irv Charles. But what about Polk?
6) I'm nervous with Apke being a starter, but he could have improved this off season. I'll be rooting for him.
7) Sounds like Nelson and Mahon are ready to go, but need to get back into football game shape. Did we ever find about Mahon?
8) Shaka Toney is going to be interesting player. As a fan, I'm worried about his low weight and him holding up against the run. Apparently he is a very smart player and understands leverage better than most. It will be exciting to see what kind of impact he makes. Still young, so he's got some time.
