he could not wrestle due the injury he suffered last night. Still, he came out in his uni, and medically forfeited.
had to be tough for him, as he's been a finalist 2 times, and his older brother was National Champ. This was his last chance to win a title, but his body wouldn't allow him compete at his best.
Ness was always a wildcard. He was the 7 seed in 2012, and somewhat of a surprise when he made the finals. Tank got injured during the tourney, so he wasn't firing on all cylinders, and Ness made him really work for his title. He finished 4th at the 2013 NCAAs. Last year he lost to Dieringer in the finals at 157.
He never had a super-high seed (7th, 6th, 9th, and 3rd), but he was never a guy that the higher seeds wanted to face. He would hit throws from all over, and his elevator move would drive opponents crazy. He was almost always an entertaining wrestler, which is more than can be said for many of the guys wrestling in tonight's finals, or who were All-American's the past 3 years.
There was somewhat of a passing at the guard at the B1G tourney, as IMar defeated Ness in the 157 final.
As best as I could tell (watching a video stream) most of the arena gave him a standing ovation after he medically forfeited his final match (believe it was the 5th/6th place match). There aren't a lot of wrestlers that earn that type of respect from fans of other teams.
Had I been in the arena, I would have given Ness a standing O as well. I liked what those in attendance did, and thought I'd comment about it here.
