Say you guys get Seth Gross, to go along with getting 6th years for Rasheed and Cassar, along with getting Kyle Conel... (gimme a sec to wipe the puke off my mouth....)

1) Is there any way or possibility to RBY bumping down to 125 for 1 season? Would he redshirt to make room for Gross at 133?

2) Could Nick Lee bump up to 149 to make room for Gross at 141?

3) Do you expect any of your guys, mainly Hall and Cassar, to take Olympic redshirts?

4) Did Beard gray shirt like Brooks last year? If so do you expect he along with Brooks...2 guys who both appear more than ready....to take another redshirt season to create the room needed for another year of Sheed at ‘84 and Conel at ‘97?

5) If Hall and Cassar take an Olympic Shirt, is it conceivable for Brooks to go ‘74, Sheed ‘84, Beard ‘97, and Conel bump up to HWY next season, with Stariocci redshirting?

Lastly ... name me your:

1) Best guess starting lineups.
2) Your best guess to Olympic redshirts.
3) Regular redshirts guesses.
4) Best guesses to transfers coming in.
5) Best guesses to potential gray shirts..

Good luck LOL.

Nice problem to have tho Nit fans....nice problem indeed!

Unless RBY can bump down, which would keep Gross and Lee at 33/41.....
Is this the best case scenario for Next season?

125: Lucas Byrd
133: Roman Bravo Young
141: Seth Gross
149: Nick Lee
157: Brady Berge
165: Vincenzo Joseph
174: Mark Hall
184: Shakur Rasheed
197: Kyle Conel
HWY: Anthony Cassar

Not for any of our opponents.

That would make sense but unless Nick Lee REALLY wants and is pushing for a redshirt... isn’t it just a slightly better addition lineup wise adding a likely finalist in Gross at 141 if you are subtracting a likely finalist next year in 141 Lee via redshirt ?

There’s sooo many possible combinations next year .... add in OLY RS & Conel as possibilities - and Cassar May want to go out “on top”.

I love lineup speculation in the off season - but this year, it seems a little pointless at this junction until we hear more info.

I think this is the most likely look as long as Byrd comes to PSU, Gross comes to PSU, Shak comes back, and Conel comes to PSU. I still think putting Brooksat 184 and Beard at 197 might make the strongest team but having those 2 redshirt is a nice idea as well. That lineup wins NCAA’s walking away again I think. So much firepower

Perhaps Nick may like the idea of redshirting and then having 2 years starting with his bro Joe.

Here's an out of the norm line-up. I'm discounting rumors about Teske leaving and Gross arriving

125 Teske
133 RBY
141 N Lee (If Gross comes, Lee RS)
149 Verk
157 Berge
165 J Lee (Manville oly RS)
174 Joseph ( Hall oly RS)
184 Rasheed (Brooks RS)
197 Conel (Beard RS)
285 S Nevills ( Cassar oly RS .. he has 2 years eligibility coming if he wants them.)

Sort of a mini punt, but unlike 2015, this team will be in the hunt.

In 2021 N Lee, Manville, Hall, Brooks, Beard and Cassar return to start the next 4 year run.

On the inside trip Joseph said he considered dropping to 57 but decided to stay at 65. I doubt he will be bumping up if he considered dropping a weight class.

VJ's true Fr year he missed weight (157) on more than one occasion. So yeah, he said that, but is it a reasonable target weight for him?

Would like to see RBY redshirt.... seems to need a little more muscle to deal with the top dogs in the 133 class. Also rooting for Verk at 149 and Berge at 157. Just my thoughts.
I'm with ya, also will find it hard waiting another year for the killer bee's (Beard n Brooks). Guess Roman and Berge fit in there as well!

Until I hear differently - Gross
60% Wisc
30% Min
10% PSU

Fingers crossed but even the 6th years are not a done deal yet either

I lean RBY shirt vs Lee, And no way I see Lee at 149 his is just starting to have the muscle for 141 to dominate, plus 141 is clearing out a bit at top, Nick could win it next year

Some of the guys need to see how they compete before deciding on redshirting I'm thinking. If they aren't close to top 3 at open or trials then a redshirt year may not be what's best for them.

Really hoping our club brings a good crew for the Open. Almost have the wife convinced on going again this year.

How is 141 clearing out at the top. Please explain this.

You guys can plan all the lineups you want.....but....I have it on go authority, that Iowa shuts us out next season.

So save your carpal tunnels

Ridiculous statements aside(was it Grip or Ironbird?), next year's dual between PSU and Iowa is going to be one heck of a meet. The powers that be need to make this Grapple on the Gridiron II.

The rumor of Gross coming to Penn State reminds me of the high hopes we had when McKenna was a "free agent" a couple years ago. A lot of people thought he was coming here back then, very similar to Gross to Penn State now

With a few exceptions....

Mckenna actually visited and had genuine interest.

Whereas gross is actually 100% internet rumor.

I don't think their will be near as many Olympic redshirts as everybody is thinking. Looking back to the last Olympic year, how many of the eligible wrestlers actually took a redshirt?

At this point Cassar is not eligible for an Olympic RS.

Here is the criteria:

  1. Past national team members (top three from the World or Olympic Team Trials)
  2. Top eight at the 2019 Senior U.S. Open
  3. Top three at the 2019 NCAA Wrestling Championship; or NCAA champion from a previous year AND top two from the 2019 U23 World Team Trials (must accomplish both).
  4. Previous Cadet, Junior, U23 world medalist
Cassar would qualify because he won a national championship in 2019. Vincenzo and Marky also qualify under this criteria as well.

So this criterea:
Top three at the 2019 NCAA Wrestling Championship; or NCAA champion from a previous year AND top two from the 2019 U23 World Team Trials (must accomplish both).
Is either written by someone who doesn’t understand semicolons, or it means the top 3 at 2019 NCAAs qualify without consideration of U23s. Either way, it could have been communicated much better. Like:

Both of the following:
  • Top three at the 2019 NCAA Wrestling Championship OR NCAA champion from a previous year.
  • Top two from the 2019 U23 World Team Trials.

OR

These each would qualify:
  • Top three at the 2019 NCAA Wrestling Championship
  • Both NCAA champion from a previous year AND top two from the 2019 U23 World Team Trials.

You are correct, this was discussed several weeks ago. It's minor, but the semicolon is not in the original criteria, published by USA Wrestling. Along the way, someone added it.

Technically Cassar doesn't qualify because he hasn't yet received additional eligiblity from the NCAA. But that's the only reason.

Actually even that is not what it means. It should read

Top two from 2019 U23 World Team Trials AND one of the following. Top three at the 2019 NCAA Wrestling Championship or NCAA champ from a previous year.

I’m just pleased that I miss threads here from time to time. There is hope for me after all, lol.

So it is the former of my two rewrites then?

I like yours better, but that’s effectively the first rewrite I posted above, right?
