Starocci Statement

He is the only person with the opportunity to become a 5-time NC, and likely the only one that will ever have this opportunity. If I'm his father he'd be seeking that distinction (yes, I know he's an adult, but parents have an plethora of influence). All of the other goals he has set can be achieved later.
He’s the only one who won as a freshman, but plenty of guys had that opportunity. There may never be another, that much is true.

I believe Ferrari also won as a frosh in 2021 so he had a chance but it didn't end well.
I don't get the point. Many had a chance, but only one still can accomplish this feat. Yianni probably would have been had Cornell wrestled the 2020-2021 season...but they didn't. Carter can stand alone and I think he should try, but of course he isn't my son and I can only hap on a message board.

Yeah agoodnap wasn’t commenting on all the athletes that initially could have had a chance. He was clearly stating that Carter is the only one who currently has a chance.

Otherwise, why point out the obvious? All freshman are potential undefeated 4 timers in November.

Time as in 4 years from now?? Sure. But he isn’t displacing Dake or Taylor from this Olympic cycle.

I would think after the NCAA's we just witnessed; we'd know "unbeatable" doesn't exist.

I'm always in favor of seeing things settled on the mat; that's where we'll find out whether "age and guile" beats "youth and a bad haircut"..

Except I didn't reply to agoodnap.

I’d dance in Starcroccis

I'm kind of curious if Starocci will do another Olympic Cycle, in his mind right now, he is winning in 2024 then going to MMA right away. With how long of a shot that is, especially with his ideal weight being non Olympic, I wonder if falling short will change his mind. I'm hoping he goes for 4 next year decides to distinguish himself by going for a 5th then wins worlds at 79KG (JB retired by then) in 2025 so he has a "Best in the World" distinction then sticks around State College training MMA with Bo (at 170).

If you are not happy and/or satisfied with 3 NCAA titles then you will not be happy/satisfied with 4 or 5. If he is happy/satisfied with 3, then move on.

If he is looking to his future, it is a good way to get knocked off. And that would really stink. Think of how disappointed S Lee must be. he was ready to get out of folk style wrestling and move on but came back for the record books. He will probably look back at the past 2 years as wasted years in his life.

I get where CS is coming from.

What's everyone thinking here, one more year or leaving? I guess I shoud've included 2 more years, but don't see that as realistic.

Outside perspective with nothing to base this off of:

Starocci fully believes that he is making the World and Olympic team. Long shot, but if he does his college career may indeed be over. When that likely doesn't happen, he will be back in a PSU singlet to go for title #4.

Several folks here and at least one HR poster have noted Starocci is in the very unique position of having first hand knowledge of how competitive he really is. If he is taking an ORS, or leaving college wrestling it isn't going to be because he hopes he can win the spot. It will be because he knows.

Whatever works for the kid, he gets my best wishes.

Word on Facebook is that Carter may have an injury? Someone reported they saw him on campus with crutches and a boot.

Hope it’s a false alarm.

On a related note, wouldn’t it make more sense for him to go 74kg at the open and then make a decision depending on how that goes

Redshirted.
and not a bad redshirt year (from gopsusports.com)

2019-20 / REDSHIRT SEASON:
Season:
Wrestled unattached in open tournaments during his redshirt season...Went unbeaten during the year...Posted an 18-0 overall record with three pins, two tech falls and six majors...Won the 174-pound Southern Scuffle title.
