Really there are only a couple of uncertainties right?

The starters on the DL are pretty well set. And it's rotation anyway so something like 10 guys will play for sure and maybe 12.

LB -- only uncertainty is whether it's Farmer or Cam Brown and Farmer seems like a pretty clear cut choice. Again, 2nd teamers will play a lot. One of the incoming freshman will probably need to play.

Safety -- only question is Apke or Scott, but one of them will be the starter for sure -- they are both experienced and good players.

Corner, the only question is Campbell or Wade.

And again it really it doesn't matter terribly because there's no question both will play. The uncertainty is who would be the next corner in or the third corner in a nickel. Taylor or Oruwariye? Is McPherson ready?

I think the biggest completely unanswered question at this point is punt returner because there is no one with significant experience available (presuming Reid is out for the season). Maybe Thompkins gets another shot. Maybe Wade gets a shot. Maybe Polk? Or one of the freshman arriving in August -- Hamler? They've just got to plug lots of people in and see how it goes.

Really PR might be the biggest worry at this point going into the fall because muffed punts could cost them a game or two if they're having to break in new people at the position. It's a position where it's impossible to know how someone is going to do until they get into a game and either catch the punt or drop it (or fumble when they're hit as was Thompkins' problem as I recall). Tough tough job.

Guns, nice list. Maybe it's just me but I'm looking forward to you NOT making this prediction anything more than what it is, a prediction by a dedicated, studious fan.

You have called this one correctly Jim. Well done.

Seems about right. The thing about this staff and Pry in particular is a ton of people will play. I can see the following people with a ton of snaps.

Simmons, Bucholz, Joseph, Givens, Chavis, Jordan, Cam Brown, B. Smith, Campbell, Amani O, Monroe, G Taylor, Z McPhearson....etc. They tend to keep guys fresh as it's a solid Defense, but no over the top stand out AA's.

Monroe is in the battle to start at Safety.

McPherson is in battle for punt returner and top CB reserve, along with Wade.

Also need to find an explosive kick off returner. Will Sanders continue to return KO's? Or who?

Now really that is an interesting question. Who has star potential? Seems to me if they stay healthy and improve as we know they can, Cothran, Givens, Allen, Cabinda and Bowen would all have a good shot at all-B1G. If the team has a great year and Cabinda can stay healthy, he'll get AA consideration.

But who will the stars from the rest of this defense? Who has all-B1G potential for this year or next? Quite a few of these guys -- Chavis, Cam Brown, Joseph and Simmons -- are very special athletically, and if they can learn their position could be difference-makers.

Agree with who you listed. Wade is apparently really tearing it up and while he is just a frosh, he will be a difference maker this year I imagine.

Our base D is nickel. Wade or Zech are going to see starter reps. Cabinda is dropping weight because he wants to stay on the field. Allen and Farmer give us great flexibility, as both can cover space or play in the box.

- I feel really good about having Brandon Smith back.
- I really hope another safety develops to play beside Allen. Someone who can read and make plays on the ball.

Yeah, I think Monroe ends up starting next to Allen.

Ask yourself "Who, on this defense, will make plays"

Now, name the players.

I say this: 7, 15, 2, 38, 1, 28, 34, 30, 52, and 41.

The thing is, does anyone else see this like me?

I see the 82 defense all over again....

A big time freshman(38 now, Zordich then), an experienced mic linebacker(Radecic then, Cabinda now), and a great safety(Robinson then, Allen now)

Don't see how Wade can help. The experts on The Lair say he's too short and they really didn't need him in their secondary.
