The silver lining for BWI is that Olympic GIF Artistry is on the way. :) The IOC will start the paperwork for it soon as they’re done admitting Competitive Falling out of a Tree. :)

(jk; glad you’re okay, TN)

If gymnastics with ribbon or horse dancing can be Olympic sports, so can breaking.

Break dancing sounds awesome, great competition for casual viewers. Who doesn't enjoy watching it?

Swimming has entirely too many events and distances. The different strokes are superfluous. Just jump in the water and swim as fast as you can. Imagine if Track & Field had four different 'runs' for each distance. Forward run, backwards run, one legged hop, crawl on all fours, etc. When Fosbury came along, they didn't create a second high jump event. You still see the shot put divided among glide vs spin techniques, not two different shot events.

Of course, that same argument could be made to limit wrestling to just one style as well.

Get with the times, dude, or get run over (or runaway from) the stampede of progress.

In all seriousness--Willie has been saying Wrestling should just quit the Olympics and do their own thing for a while now. Hard to make that argument to kids raised on Oly Gold as the pinnacle, but he's not wrong that the best interests of the sport are not served by the IOC. UWW is better than FILA, but wrestling also seems so very corrupt on the international stage, so I don't necessarily think simply replacing the olympics would work. But I'd love for 10 weights to be the norm, somehow...

Maybe TnT are thinking ahead and have been training the boys for when the back pedal becomes Olympic event?

Is there an event where pushing and getting stalling calls in the whole purpose?

It could be some kind of artistic sumo-hybrid.

This made me think, what are my favorite Summer Olympic sports to watch? I'd have to rank them as:
1. Duh, rasslin'
2. Swimming (Lots of drama with great finishes)
3. Track and Field (Pure Olympic sport...except for the PEDs)
4. Gymnastics ( I have to look away during balance beam)
5. Water Polo (I had kids play)
6. Women's soccer (because I'm a little creepy too)
7. Women's Beach Volleyball (see above)
8. Diving
9. Boxing
10. Marathon (because I like naps)

ESPN spends a lot of time showing guys playing poker. How is that considered a sport?
Now Paul Newman playing poker against Robert Shaw in The Sting was entertaining.
yea, not as interesting when there isn't a gun under the table (Doc Holiday)

I must be old. I thought break dancing stopped being a "thing" by 1986. What's next. Break Dance Electric Boogaloo Part 111.

I think Wrestling is doing it right. They are competing in the Olympics as the IOC mandates but are doing world championships and other events to their own rules or at least weight classes.
It is sad to see the Olympics being commercialized and just being made into an effort to make money instead of showcasing amateur talent and dream chasing, but that is how it is in life. The impure always try to reap benefits by debasing the pure.

Without money, the Games don't get televised.

while this is true, the emphasis on the 6 OLY bastardizes the legitimacy of the Non-OLY WTS in almost every World Championships.

The year after OLY every weight is watered down b/c people take a year off.
The second year after OLY is the purest imo.
The year before the OLY everyone avoids the Non-OLY like the plague, mostly b/c the are trying to acclimate to the new weight + trying to qualify the wt. for their country.

in short, the reduction to 6 wts doesn't just effect one year.

Don’t even get me started on a race that has specific rules to slow you down. It is a great form of exercise, but it is not a race. It did make for a great story line in Cary Grant’s final film.

Does anyone think this will happen in D1 also?

trying to get that younger demo mannn. THey might as well, it isn't anymore dumb than bmx , or worst yet horse dressage lol.

Can we just take two from the women and call it even?

Has there ever been a time, I'm nowhere near up on my Olympic wrestling history, that we've had some many likely champs or place winnings affected by this? Only three of JB, dake, DT, Cox, and Snyder can go??? Not to mention all the other guys that could go if there were four more classes. Could even include Bo in there with the other 5 guys for 3 spots.

This made me think . . .

These comments brought to mind the Netflix documentary "Athlete A." Very enlightening look at the inner workings of USA Gymnastics and the olympic team selection process.

Oh, I've got this falling out of a tree competition wrapped up. I've been training. Once.

Um, we on this board consider you a top notch Professional at Tree Falling. Thus even in this liberal Olympic pay structure, you, at your level, are clearly ineligible.

I'm sure Issac Newton would have said, "Damn that was good"! Percent 10. Russian judges maybe a 3 based on how you hit your landing.

Who Wanna Pop N Lock? Dance battle on beaver?
