Football Storm Duck back in the portal

PSU need a lot of DB's ASAP for next year.
Cam Miller and Elliott Washington return next year who should see lots of PT this year. Other two: Zion Tracy. True Freshman and Mehki Flowers, RS Freshman.

It's the week Franklin is meeting with every player and telling them where they stand. I would infer that Mr. Duck wasn't on track to make the two deep. He may be an excellent player but there are even more excellent players in front of him.
Why two deep? I would infer that this meant he wasn't starting. He came here thinking he could start on a top 10 caliber team when he realized that wasn't true he left. If he wasn't named a starter why would he stay?

Hardy is a redshirt senior, so he may have had enough after 5 years. Only Cam Miller will have significant game experience and return at CB for 2024 unless Washington, Tracy and Payne get some experience in 2023 and are ready for big roles in 2024. Obviously Franklin and Smith will likely bring in at least 1 experienced CB after the 2023 season. The CB roster is why we see Smith and Franklin going full speed ahead in trying to get at least 3 CB's in the 2024 class along with the 3 in the 2023 class.

Flowers is at Safety and does not seem to have the coverage skills to play CB. But Safety seems in great shape going forward with Wheatley, Reed (likely), Winston, Mills, Flowers and the 2 talented 2023 true freshman Mack and Nelson arriving this summer.

Agree, he was probably in the two deep but wanted to start.

I know that this is difficult for some people to fathom, but maybe he just didn't like State College, or dare I even say, the program or staff?

Okay, you can go with that theory.
So year after year we are all going to consistently go along with this farce that every kid who leaves wasn't good, and that we have all of this extra special talent just sitting in the cupboard, absent any evidence. Something doesn't smell right in this situation considering that you need at least 3 quality corners, and one bad game or injury can change the depth chart quickly. And by the way, if we go with your theory then every glowing piblic statement that Franklin made about this kid since he arrived on campus was clearly complete bullshit.

How many starts between the players you listed?
Of course none @ this point. But who knows if an injury might occur. We do know that the defense does rotate CBs. so at a minimum I expect Miller (who already played last season) and Washington to be on the field for a significant numer of plays.

Storm should have realized that you don't stroll from a MAC level conference where you were a starter and expect to start in the big time. Now Storm is looking to go back to a MAC level conference for playing time. Storm made a poor choice a few months ago.

His position on the White team did catch me off guard when the rosters were posted.

It will be interesting to see a study in a few years about the overall impact the portal has had on the players. Obviously, it works out for guys like Chop last season, but not at all for Storm. It is important for each individual player to evaluate the destinations team fully. We are obviously strong in Storm’s position, but not so strong in a couple other positions this season. I don’t know the rosters of these teams, but perhaps Storm can find a spot at a Wisconsin, Iowa, or Nebraska, that may not have the athleticism or skill that we do in the secondary.

Anything is possible--and every single coach has had a player leave because they didn't mesh. That's not an insult to the coach or the player--just life.

I'm fine with the first one but why shouldn't Bronny James or Livvy Dunne cash in year 1?
I think it could stop “some” of the NIL shopping that the handlers are doing. Addison probably stays at Pitt for his final year. I am not against leaving a school but there has to be some loyalty, etc…

I don't agree that there needs to be loyalty. Are programs loyal to the kids or only as long as they're useful to them?

Addison should have been able to leave and get paid. I have no problem with that. Just like I wouldn't have been mad if JPJ had left last year for money. I would have been disappointed but the kids need to maximum their worth while they can.

If Storm finishes the Spring Semester and transfers did he have a scholarship for the semester? If so does he have to repay the scholarship money or did he get paid to workout for four months?

Yes.

No. Essentially.
