After being limited earlier on, linebacker Koa Farmer was seen in pads Saturday for the first time at an open-to-media practice this spring. For some of his teammates, it was a welcoming sight.
Farmer, once a Rivals.com four-star athlete from Lake View Terrace, Calif., initially came to Penn State as a safety, but shortly after preseason practice began last August, the 6-foot-1, 219-pounder made the expected move to linebacker. He redshirted his first year as he learned the new position and appeared poised to challenge for playing time this spring.
If only he was healthy enough to be on the field. Because, as his teammates say, Farmer brings an added dimension to the LB corps.
"The kid is ridiculously fast," said fellow linebacker Nyeem Wartman, who was also limited for a portion of spring practice. "I like everything about him. I wish he had a couple more practices, but I still think he [has time] to improve from now until the end of the season."
