I commented during the match thread that RBY move reminded me of when I saw Kolat's backflip his senior year in the State Finals.
If I recall Kolat had not given up a takedown all year, his opponent gets a a good single leg and tries to elevate it. Kolat does a backflip , catches the kids ankles and scores a takedown. It's probably out there on You Tube if anybody wants to see it.
Both moves were special.

I can't tell as the camera cuts away....but is there a small smirk on Cael's face toward the end of the clip?

Kolat does a backflip and goes thru the legs and comes out behind for a TD. See link.

Thanks for posting video. It was before internet, I remember watching in person and then watching the Sunday morning replay on TV to validate what we witnessed.
Now moments like this get posted on our phones a few minutes after the moment.
I did think Sanderson had a hint of a smile on his face once RBY scored the 2.

In the latest Rudis podcast Cary credits an unnamed Cal State Bakersfield wrestler for introducing him to the back flip. Said he watched the guy pull it off twice at Midlands.

RBY was #10 on Sportscenter top 10. When’s the last time a wrestler made that list?

Saw it this morning. A very nice recognition for the kid and the program. Especially on a football Sunday.

Was thinking the same..almost like we see this all the time in practice.
From today's CDT Article:
“Is that what that was? The ref was blocking my view,” said Sanderson with a laugh, when asked about his thoughts on Bravo-Young’s flip. “I wouldn’t consider that base-line defense. We tend to teach that more. I told (assistant coach) Cody (Sanderson) it’s a good thing they worked on that earlier in the week, because it really came in handy.

“I think if Cody tried that move, he’d probably just die. Roman has a lot of athleticism. He’s very springy, bouncy and explosive, that is certainly not a go to defense but the crowd enjoyed it.”

Cael: Well, this is going to go over big at the coaches conference...
Cody: I know, I know. But we only told them maybe in 2020. No guarantees.
Casey (sniggering): Yeah, how were we supposed to know the freshman would be that good. HA-HA!
Varner: If I have to listen to another Koll "good of the sport" speech, I'm going to puke.
Cael (shaking his head): You don't even know. Ryan's going to defecate a brick. He told me last week he couldn't wait to say "oops, sorry Tom, I didn't realize Sasso going to score that many." I'm going to have to kick it down the road a bit. Do you think Tom will go for 2024?
Cody: Not if this hits Sportcenter. Every 12 year-old in the country will be wanting to walk on now.
Cael: Geez, Louise, I can see it now. First the bellowing, then the angry elf shuffle. Terry's going to want to hit someone. Everyone's going to be looking at me. Man, I wish JRob was back.
Varner (chuckling): Sleeper hold or 3 Stooges, boss?
Casey (leaning in, rubbing hands together): I got the one in the green sweater.
(Cael, Cody and Varner all laugh)
Cael: Don't worry, gentlemen. I've got a plan.

All right, guys. Let me tell you how big of a move this was in a different way.

Last year, I got my Dad re-involved in wrestling, by taking him to a couple of matches and nationals. He enjoyed it and is ready to go to nationals again. Yesterday, I couldn't go to the match, so Dad bought a ticket himself and went.

A couple of things about Dad. He's generally pretty reserved. He RARELY initiates a text conversation. He would NEVER consider sending a text during a sporting event.

12/3/18, 2:25 PM, Text from Dad: If you get a link to the Bravo-Young match, email it to me.
12/3/18, 3:20 PM, Text from MOM: What did you do to your Dad? He's turned into a wrestling-holic.
12/4/18, 9:51 AM, Text from Dad: Do you have an extra ticket for me for AZ State, or should I start looking for one?

Flo guys: FYI--just because a few knuckleheads don't understand that rankings is a meritocracy, doesn't mean the PSU fan base is dumb. I get why Roman hasn't earned a ranking yet--and no offense to your hard work, but all i really care about it the ranking the wrestlers do themselves in March. If Roman lands a podium spot (I think he will), he will have earned it.

Pretty cool when the wrestling on the mat is bigger than the stroll out the tunnel.

Sure looks like it; perfectly appropriate -- not shock or awe, just satisfaction.

They have probably witnessed that in practice several times so they were not as aw struck as some.

Love that story. I was at the match with my Dad. We couldn't stop talking about RBYs move and Cassar picking up Wood. Priceless memories!
