Surviving D-Day Omaha Beach 1944

Recently, I discovered a database of missions for my late uncle's Bomb Group. The database contained every mission and the plane and crew....long story short, his very first mission as a dual certified bombardier/navigator with the 385th, 548th sqdrn was on D-Day. He flew two missions that day on "Satan's Mate".

My brother Rick & I are members of the Descendants Group American Defenders of Bataan and Corregidor. Our father was captured on Bataan and survived the march. in fact my brother is at the annual meetings this week in Florida.

Here is the group's description:
The Descendants Group-ADBC is dedicated to preserving and perpetuating the story of the men and women who defended the Philippines against overwhelming odds during the first months of World War II in the Pacific, through education, preservation of documents and artifacts, and historical research.

Surviving D-Day Omaha Beach 1944

Visited Normandy on the way to Dublin for the game last fall. Quite an experience. Stayed at the Normandy Hotel in Arromanches. Also, man who hired me out of college was the lead navigator for the Bloody 100; 100th Bomb group flying B-17's. Never forget.
