I don't know if you all have been following this but it is potentially HUGE. I know a little about Suspicious Activity Reports and Large Currency Transactions (I know LdN does as well). Here's the deal:
This is an amazing set of circumstances in many ways.
- The fed makes banks report SARs and LCTs (SARs being suspicious activity reports). They are made en masse and ties by SSN. They are used to combat money laundering. Spitzer was caught as a result of going to the bank and withdrawing large sums of cash to pay off his high end hooker. People don't use that kind of cash unless they are in a cash biz (coin laundry, car wash, pizza delivery, etc.) or illegal gambling/hookers/drugs. So large cash transactions draws attention.
- In the case of Cohen, First Republic Bank (a very high end bank, this is where Zuckerberg banks) reported Cohen for taking in several $1m + deposits. These were done before Trump was sworn in or recently thereafter (before he had a chance to get his full cabinet in).
- These were used to get a subpoena on Cohen.
- The details were leaked to Avenatti who tweeted some of the data out.
- Here is where it gets interesting: Apparently the person who oversaw the SARs who works for (essentially) the Dept of Treasury (Financial Crimes Enforcement Network of FinCEN). . He/She leaked it because several transactions reported on the SARs was absent from the Treasury database. Essentially, the suggestion is that someone may have gone into the treasury database and deleted them.
- Officials know of no way this could have been done, couldn't have been done by an official Trump cabinet member and there was no reason to do it (at the time) because who would have known about Trump and Stormy and Cohen at that time?
