They are even worse against the Reds. But hey, not to worry, Central Division games aren't all that important.Absolutely amazing how they shit the bed against that team!!
I didn't watch tonight because Locke was pitching & I knew they would lose. He is pathetic. I've conceded the Division to the Cards so I'm not going to do much more than casually watch the final month of the season & wait for the playoffs. Cubs lost to Reds team 22 games under .500 so we are step closer to WC. Cards lost.Absolutely amazing how they shit the bed against that team!!
Locke should not be pitching in the major leagues & Morton is not much better. These last 3 games have to be a concern, especially the rotation. They stunk in all facets of the game against 3 very lousy teams in the middle of what could have been a pennant race.
What bothers me most about Locke is not that he shouldn't be pitching in MLB, let alone for a contending team, it's that he seems to bring down the whole staff when he starts. It wasn't enough for him to give up 5 ER in less than 4 innings; noooooooooo,
Blanton (2 IP, 1 ER),
Caminero (1 IP, 2 ER...WTH?)
and Scahill (0.1 IP, 1 ER, 2H, 1 BB...WTF???)
had to get into the giving spirit as well. These guys aren't hacks; Caminero has the highest ERA of the three of them at 3.50, the others are below 3.00. I'm willing to give Scahill some slack since this is his first time back since the end of June, but still, a combined 4 runs in 3.1 innings won't get you far.
FWIW...wrt Caminero: Aside from striking out the side, there wasn't much more he could have done to prevent those runs (defense - lack thereof, and bad luck)
Blanton gave up the one run on a solo HR on at bat that was about 135 pitches long. Lind (IIRC) fouled off a slew of good two strike pitches before finally hitting a pitch - that actually wasn't a bad pitch - over the fence.
Hey, I'm with you.Yeah, my frustration isn't always directed at the right person/people. It just seems to be coincidental that the team doesn't play as well when Locke pitches. Of course, then he'll come in and throw lights out and all is well again.....until the next time!

Pirates have sucked in Milwaukee ever since the guy knocked over the bratwurst in the sausage races. Maybe we should sacrifice a pirogi as retribution. Never liked potato pirogi anyway.....
Correct me if I'm wrong, but if, and that's a big IF, the Bucs get past the wild card playoff game, I think they would have to play the team with the most wins....i.e, the Cardinals. I think the Dodgers would get the Mets.Everybody get down off the ledge please. May I remind you we are talking about the team with the third best record in ALL of baseball. It is September and that record is no fluke. Relax and hope we get hot in Buctober and the Dodgers eliminate the Cardinals. Somehow the Yankees beat the Royals and you have another epic Pirates-Yankees WS 55 years after 1960. Beat em Bucs!
Yes. They will play, and defeat, the Cards.Correct me if I'm wrong, but if, and that's a big IF, the Bucs get past the wild card playoff game, I think they would have to play the team with the most wins....i.e, the Cardinals. I think the Dodgers would get the Mets.
They shouldn't be. At one time, yes, when the team was full of Braves, but now they're beer makers.I think they're scared of Milwaukee.

Totally agree. At least from some of the quotes I saw, or heard, after the game last night, he's not blaming anyone but himself, but he is a guaranteed loss every time he pitches unless we score 6 or 7 runs.Locke has 9 "quality starts" in 26 starts this season, a horrible %. And BTW a quality start is not a heroic accomplishment (6 innings at a 4.5 ERA equivalent). If they keep running him out there, they aren't serious about giving the team a chance to win.
Hey, I'm with you.
Why-o-why didn't Hurdle pull him after three innings? I sure as hell would have:
- It was clear by then that this was NOT going to be the one start per month where Locke is not the "typical" Locke
- Ramirez gets them back to even in the 4th....big pick-me-up for the team
- You know you're likely to get no more than one more inning out of Locke anyway (haven't we seen this show before?)
- Brewers have the bottom of the order due up in the 4th.....any other option on the mound is likely to get you a clean inning, and get the bats back up with momentum and a chance to knock around the rookie pitcher
- You got 9 or 10 arms down in the pen (any of whom are better options than Locke)...not to mention a bench full of PH candidates
