The beat goes on in East Lansing, MI... MSU Coach Mark Dantonio to be deposed

Seven hours and can be asked anything, including questions about nassar. Load up on the popcorn.

Should be very interesting. Those guys doing the questioning are not a bunch of media hacks who are going to be intimidated by a football coach like Dantonio. He might snarl and growl like he does when a media guy asks him a question, but these guys will not back down and if anything their line of questioning might get more hostile towards him.

It's very clear to me that there is a culture that encourages sexual violence in East Lansing.

I would venture to guess that Dantonio has received legal counsel and has been advised to answer the questions directly and succinctly. So, I don't think snarling and growling will be part of deposition.

dantonio’s appearance has been delayed until January. When asked to appear this month, dantonio responded, “Don’t bother me. I have a season to prepare for.”

Yes. But you can't expect him to change over-night. This is a guy who has been allowed to bully the media for 10+ years by snarling & growling every time he was asked something he did not like.

I am sure he will be coached for many hours by his legal council. And I am also sure his legal council will coach him to answer as much as possible with non-discriminating answers such as "I'm not sure", "I do not remember", "To the best I can remember"..... No court can charge with with lack of memory and not remembering. It's much better to say a "grey" answer than a "black & white" answer.

You forgot the classic, “What I would have said.....”

With Cynthia Baldwin representing him, he has nothing to worry about, right?

I'm not sure why this interview would get out in the open. If MSU thinks there's something in there to be worried about, they'd probably just settle confidentially and move on. I'd be shocked if dirty laundry sees the light of day.

If he is being deposed, everything is attorney client privilege. Zero of what he says will ever make it's way to the light of day. So not sure what anybody is expecting to come out of this. This isn't a grand jury presentment that the prosecutor is going to lie about and secretly release to the press.

I thought attorney client privilege was between a person and his own attorney. In this case, someone else is asking the questions. Why would this privilege be applied? Wouldn't it be a right to know type of public document? At least eventually?

Why would it be a public document. It is a lawsuit. D'Antonio's attorney (probably two of them) will literally be sitting right next to him the entire time probably objecting to a third of every question asked. This lawsuit will eventually be settled and the records sealed. That is how it works.

Okay, but that's not the same thing as attorney client privilege.

Will he respond “ I think that’s kind of a dumb ass question to be honest with you” during this deposition?
