I would have to respectfully disagree. I am not a huge rap lover, but was in HS at the height of Run DMC and was a fan if rap at that time, and still have a decent respect for it as a musical genre.

I would love to hear how you qualify "what is music" and why rap isn't music? Frankly, and again with respect, you sound like they same people that didn't think Rock and Roll wasn't real music back in the 50's and 60's.

You forgot one other qualification, ignorance. I would not brag about being a "professional musician" and then lay claim that one type of music shouldn't be labeled music. Do have any comprehension of other cultures outside your own? Every type of music troughout the world derives from a few simple types of sounds.

To me, music requires singing and/or musical instruments. Most rap has neither one. It's more a form of chanting than it is a form of music.

So, you sing praises to an imaginary God and that helps make you a music expert? It simply means your musical talent is misplaced and misguided.

Dissing any type of music is usually passive agressive. Let me guess, you're a white guy? It's not "really" rap you hate, it's black people and "their" ways and customs, right? Let me guess, you're a Republican, too.

Why not just say you don't like rap? I don't care for Country. Why? It doesn't do anything for me. And, I, too, am not a "fan" of rap or even hip hop (modern). But, it is still music nonetheless, like Country. Both genre have millions and millions of fans worldwide and across color/racial barriers. They all think Country and RP is music. So, they're wrong and you're right? Tell that to theusic execs that rake in billions selling Rap (and Country) music. See what they say.
