The Big Lebowski

One of my all time favorite films of any genre. A classic IMO.

LOL, that was definitely one of the top 3 funniest scenes in the movie. I agree with the OP, an instant classic and gets better with age. The Dude's face as ashes blow all over it....hahahahahaha!

FYI - John Turturro is doing a spin-off about da Jesus...press release:

John Turturro plays Jesus Quintana in GOING PLACES, a film about a trio of misfits whose irreverent, sexually charged dynamic evolves into a surprising love story as their spontaneous and flippant attitude towards the past or future backfires time and again, even as they inadvertently perform good deeds. When they make enemies with a gun-toting hairdresser, their journey becomes one of constant escape from the law, from society and from the hairdresser, all while the bonds of their outsider family strengthen.

I saw it only after one of my co-workers put up a Nixon bowling poster in his cubicle. Glad I did.

Yep, and some are much worse than others and Lebowski is full of timely, hilarious profanity that can't be appreciated on regular cable. I saw Wolf of Wall Street playing on FX the other day and was like WTF, impossible!
The classic teen age coming of age nerd movie from the 80’s is Weird Science. Watching it on cable, the scene in the blues bar where Anthony Michael Hall was commiserating about getting his heart broken, one channel over dubbed him as saying: she kneed me in the ‘guts’ and called me a ‘braggart’...

On some level, this actually is even funnier.

They were nazis Dude?
Cmon Donny they were threatening castration!
Am I wrong?

Lets not forget Dude that keeping wildlife, um... an amphibious rodent, for... um, ya know domestic... within the city... that ain't legal either.

Great movie - easily one of the top five most quotable. Funny thing it got mostly middling reviews when it came out because it was the Coen Bros. follow up to 'Fargo'. If anyone watched the most recent season of the TV show 'Fargo' (and you should watch all of them!) you'll notice a tip of the hat to Lebowski....

Fargo is a good movie, but it’s not in the same league as the Big Lebowski for me. That said, I didn’t see it in the theater and maybe not until 5 years after it was released. I don’t have Mitch interest in rewatching Fargo, but will always stop and watch the Big Lebowski when I see that it is on cable somewhere.

I did not "get" TBL when I saw it in theaters, specifically because I was expecting the next Fargo. It took me a few viewings on deine cah-ble before I really appreciated its sophistication and humor.

I was at a hunting dog event this past Saturday and met a guy who had two hunting dogs. One was named Walter and the other named Donny. I didn’t make the connection at first but when he told me why he named them, I thought it was great. So many ready made things to yell at them when they misbehave... Donny, your out of your element, shut the bleep up Donny, what was all that shit about Vietnam... I don’t know if child protective services would let you say these things to your kids if you named them Dinny and Walter.

They were wirehaired pointing griffons. Funny, someone asked what the difference was between a wirehaired pointing griffon and a German wirehaired pointer... after a brief pause with nobody providing an answer, I said about $500.

Still can’t beat a good old GSP....

My wife is not a fan of this movie, and I’m not a huge fan of costume parties, but I think it would be a hoot to have a Big Lebowski costume party. The only issue would be the limited number of female characters... but I guess women could dress up as any of the male characters.
Simplify it. Everyone wears pajama pants and drinks Miller lites and caucasians.

My male Draght looks almost like a WPG and people always ask. I just say it is a mut. Lol.

My female Draght looks like a GWP with the exception of a short beard with a thin wire coat over.

He cost me $700 back in 2004 and she was $1300 o_O in 2014. Same breeder. I asked what is up with the price, he says there is more demand. Not sure that is a good thing.

My dogs are named after characters in the Good, Bad, and Ugly. Aka "Tuco" for the male, "Blondie" for the female, and the next pup (next year) will be "Angel" after Van Cleef's "Angel Eyes" character.

I’m watching it tonight for the umpteenth time and I really think that this movie is fantastic on so many levels. It holds up over time and seems to get even better as time passes and the more times I watch it. There are so many great characters, superbly written lines, and the story is just well told.

I’m sure that there are some other fans of the movie out there... what are your favorite scenes?

Too many "favorites" to name. I did have a most concerning episode relating to the movie happen recently. A casual friend said that he and his now wife walked out of the theater during the movie because they hated it so much.

Sure, different strokes, yadda yadda, but it's gonna be damned hard for me to think of anything else when I encounter the guy from now on.

I’m working on my wife trying to convince her that we need a third GSP... I think she’d sooner agree to a threesome involving two strange women and her running the camera... in other words, it’s not happening!

I apologize because I have not read the entire thread. The question that keeps reverberating in my head is “Why does this film resonate so well with men?”

I have seen it dozens and dozens of times. My wife just rolls her eyes.

“Just one thing dude”
“Yeah, what’s that?”
“Do you have to use so many cuss words?”
“What the f@ck are you talking about?”
Agree, my wife doesn't understand how I can watch it for the umpteenth time and still laugh.
