Yup--Penn State won last night, and that by far was the most important result. Nobody who's sane can dispute that. However, there are some troubling past offensive issues to recognize:

The first half against Buffalo--yes, Buffalo.

Much of the game against Pitt.

The second half against Purdue.

Much of the game against Iowa.

Then last night, after Penn State's stunning third touchdown with about six minutes left in the first half, Penn State's offense disappeared. Except for the long touchdown pass to Hamler in the fourth quarter, it didn't reappear. Michigan was one dropped pass away from tying the score. Was there good news? Sure. Clifford took care of the ball--no turnovers. The offense was able to keep possession of the ball via a critical first down. And we could all leave smiling.

My point? The offense has a problem, and it's not an isolated or occasional issue. With the Lions now in the middle of a really tough stretch, the next long "bad patch" could easily result in a loss. Let's hope that the coaches are smart enough to deal with the problem. Michigan State, Michigan State, Michigan State.
