The hit on Clifford followed up by a QB sneak made me think of the old time Steeler QB. Tough as nails.
Unlike Lane, Clifford has real QB skills to match the toughness.

True, but hung over or fresh, he was a tough guy who took a ton of punishment on a terrible Steelers teamBobby was really good when he was with Detroit, and you also have to take into account that Bobby was either really really hung over or still drunk come kickoff.

Booby also was known to drink at halftime. With the Steelers and I'm sure in Detroit, a coach had to drag him home at closing time (or later). He still made the hall of fame!Bobby was really good when he was with Detroit, and you also have to take into account that Bobby was either really really hung over or still drunk come kickoff.
Bobby, of course, not Booby.Booby also was known to drink at halftime. With the Steelers and I'm sure in Detroit, a coach had to drag him home at closing time (or later). He still made the hall of fame!
Thanks fir the info. Growing up in Western PA, we read about him as a Steeler and his toughness and antics. Did he wear a face mask?Bobby was a legend, a college superstar, won a couple NFL championships, made multiple Pro Bowls.
Waaay too early to mention Sean in the same breath...

In my opinion that hit and the fact that coach put him right back in did so much to establish him as a leader of this team. People forget that he was about the number 187 player in this class when we recruited him. He was a great leader in high school. It goes to show what a good quarterback can do when he has all the materials including even a decent offensive line.Negative on the face mask. Bobby was one of the last players in the game not to wear one. And you heard right about the "antics." In fact, that's part of the legend.
By the way, I only know this because I'm a big fan of football history, not because I ever saw him play. He was before my time...though not by much.
Sean's way too nice to fit the Bobby Layne mold, but you're right about that hit on Saturday. The way he shook it off did credit to Bobby!
