Guys name is Mike, and all the video was shot with his cell. Pretty cool, he carries his gear with him!! Back in the day, this kind of stuff would have been impossible.
Yeah I thought the same thing but AJ is the only brother he could be talking about there, and it'd have to be through the NLWC as he's not on the roster.I didn't realize that AJ was in the room already...I knew he was taking a year off, but didn't realize he was in State College. Is he just with the NLWC?
Haven't watched them yet but as for themes I'm gonna go ahead and say scoring points and having fun.
Very nice job, True Wrestling. Hope you do these with the PSU wrestlers all year long!
watching Zains interview.....I swear there was just the faintest hint of a smile when someone said Nolf only got a tech fall.
Maybe it is my imagination.
That would be highly unlikely.
The Classic offered a unique situation. PSU had guys in most of the finals, they weren't going anywhere after their matches, and PSU wasn't staging any type of PC after the Classic.
In addition, True-Wrestling has covered the Classic, with videos and written reporting, for several years. This year, Flo had exclusive rights to cover the wrestling, so T-W was left to watch and observe, but didn't have a lot to film and report on.
Penn State agreed to let T-W do interviews with the PSU wrestlers after their finals. I mentioned in my initial write-up on Sunday after the Classic that T-W had done the interviews, and that they should be posted in a day or so.
T-W was at the Rider dual and the Ohio State dual last year (perhaps others -- I happened to have talked to the guy that runs the site at each of those duals). The Rider dual was more like what you'll see this season. PSU's wrestlers are off limits to the press until after a dual ends. Since Rider was an away match, and PSU wasn't holding a PC after it, Penn State Pat (the wrestling team's SID) allowed T-W to interview a few of the guys after the dual concluded. However, time was very limited, as PSU wanted to get on the bus and head back to State College. T-W would ask to speak to wrestler A, then Pat would go back in the locker room, then he'd come out with wrestler A, and then T-W would conduct a short interview.
I haven't yet listened to most of the interviews, but I really enjoyed Rasheed's. Seems like a really great kid. At times he sounded a little like Rocky talking.
I had the same impression, Tom, except instead of Rocky, I was struck by how New York he sounds. (Almost like he grew up there or something )
and I dont like many people.
Some of it was the accent, but even more his speaking style--said whatever came to mind without worrying about what you'd think about it. Very likeable.I had the same impression, Tom, except instead of Rocky, I was struck by how New York he sounds. (Almost like he grew up there or something )
You're right--more Gronk than Rocky!Shak sounds like Gronk. Funny stuff. Seems like an awesome dude.
For some reason, strong East Coast accents seem rare nowadays. When I watched the Shakur interview, I thought at first that he had a mouth guard in his mouth. Then I realized he had an accent. By the way, my kid does debate, and the debate coach says an accent on a good debater is a plus--it makes him stand out.I had the same impression, Tom, except instead of Rocky, I was struck by how New York he sounds. He's from eastern Long Island and Long Island accents are distinct from New Yawk accents (to me anyway--I'm from LI but moved to NYC 26 years ago so can hear the differences), though both tend to drop some consonants at the end of words. He's also got a slight lisp which has nothing to do with any accent. Easy kid to root for, I'm always happy when Long Island kids break through. Adam Busiello is also from eastern Long Island, not far from where Shak went to HS.For some reason, strong East Coast accents seem rare nowadays.
