Anyone that thinks Kris Letang isn't a liability needs to rewatch tonight's games. The turnovers, the infinite times he got beat, the stupid penalties, etc. He's the most overpaid player on the team and maybe in the NHL. I'd root for a minor injury to keep him out of the lineup but that only works if we had Cole

Right--no Penn State fans are Pens fans. It's honestly just pathetic at this point that you guys make everything about me. I'm trying to discuss the disaster that is Kris Letang. If you're not interested then post elsewhere. There's an entire thread dedicated to me

Kudos to the Devils. They were the better team tonight. That doesn't alter the point. Letang's contract is really hurting the Pens...almost more than his play. He was the worst player on the ice tonight and that's happening far too often.

I'm really impressed with the Devils. I don't want to see the Pens play tem in the first round. The Metro playoffs are going to be very interesting.

The game I saw tonight featured not one, not two, but three bad goals scored on Casey DeSmith. None of them should have been let in. With that said, the Devils beat us to the pucks all night long and won the corners. They also were flying tonight, and our third line looked disorganized with the new guy in there. It might take a couple games with the new lineup to gel, but it will. The Pens got back into that bad habit of globe trotter passing and nobody shooting tonight. At least half a dozen great point blank shots passed up for the pretty play, and that kills us when we do that. Bad game. We move on and need Murray back after Boston because right now both backup goalies are simply not getting it done.

Pens won't make it out of the first round this season assuming they hang on to a spot in the playoffs. Flyers, Devils and Capitals are all better. Brassard was an unnecessary addition. They are 0-2 since Ian Cole left the lineup. They needed help on D like last year when they acquired Hainsey but they opted to weaken the blue line for another forward. After back-to-back Cups the Pens will be irrelevant this spring.

You may be right.

But, if there is one team that can prove you wrong, it is the Penguins!

It’s February...repost this again in June and let’s discuss again at that time. As Glov posted, you may ultimately be right, but I seriously doubt that either Philly, NJ, or Wash will be better when the games count. Remember, the Pens won it all last year with a worse blue line than it has right now.

Ummm....the Pens are 1-2 since the Cole trade. They beat the Canes on Friday. Hanging on to a playoff spot isn't even a concern unless Murray is out for a very long period of time. The two games they lost were started by Jarry & DeSmith. Not having a reliable veteran back up goaltender might be the biggest problem. In all honesty this comes down to Letang. if he can play 25-30 minutes a game at the level a guy making over 7M should they'll be fine assuming Murray is in net. That doesn't mean they'll win another Cup but they'll contend. The Brassard trade was a great move. Brassard wasn't unnecessary because Sullivan doesn't want Geno & Phil together. He couldn't go into the playoffs with Sheahan centering Kessel. It wouldn't work and he knew it. The issue is, IMO, not shipping Sheary for a defenseman to push Hunwick to the 7 spot.

Letang and Murray...it all comes down to them

Also, I don't know if NJD, WASH or PHIL is "better" than the Pens but playoff matches between those teams are going to be very interesting. Anyone could beat anyone. The Devils scare me the most. The Caps the least.

Can't wait until the playoffs. The east is going to be wild. The west...should come down to Nashville, Winnipeg or Vegas

The blue line was better last year...the third pairing was significantly better. And we didn't have Letang which was beneficial depending on what version of Letang shows up. The one that helped us win the Cup in 2016 or the one that we've seen ever since.

Last Sunday, I saw DeSmith give up 5 goals to the LV Phantoms.

Well, you shouldn't need to score 4 to win nightly but it wasn't all DeSmith's fault. Oleksiak screened him on the first goal, the second goal was a power play opportunity (because of Letang's horrible defense) which I rarely hold against the goalie, and the third goal was a deflection right in front of the net. DeSmith wasn't poor. Made a couple great saves especially on SH chances by the Devils (again--looking at Letang) and probably would only like that first goal back.

Which looks like it will help a playoff contending team in their division as he was later flipped to Columbus. But Brass was a good pickup for the Pens, I think.

Yeah, I wasn't happy to see him end up in Colombus. Although that's likely Tampa or Boston's problem in the first round

Ooohhh!!! How dare you doubt the all mighty all seeing greatest GM in the world Jim Rutherford.

For crying out loud. I tried to say the same thing and got commented on almost as soon as I hit Post

One person put Brassard’s points in playoffs as being right up there with crosby and Malkin. What he failed to post is that they also have played the most playoff games of the group selected and while Crosby and Malkin have high PPG rates, Brassard actually ranks behind some defensemen in this data selection

I think they overpaid for him and kicking all he picks down the curb will spell disaster soon.

The Caps/Pens series will be a good match up of 1 v 4 in the Metro!! Ha ha ha.
