The more last years final bugs me. Honestly, it feels like it's wearing on Bo as well. He's wrestling angry and it's great to watch. What are the odds now he wins the Hodge with a win over Dean?

Nill. Unless both Zain and Imar lose. So yah, nill. (Nickal is looking beastly. On a mission)

Not sure. If bo goes undefeated and stays on a roll with all these pins AND...he beats the unbeatable he could very well get the hodge.

I wouldn't rule it out either. Bo is currently ahead of Zain in the Most Dominant standings, and the Brooks spladle got a lot of attention.

Needs to have the lead in the third. If he doesn't, Dean will run.

If you were to size up Bo and Dean right now, how would you see it? Maybe that's not fair to ask, but I'd be interested in your opinion.

Undefeated, national champion, most dominant wrestler of the year, dispatcher of previous Hodge favorite Gabe Dean.
It would be pretty darn tough to imagine someone else winning it, but what do I know Peyton Manning never won the Heisman.

I tend to agree with this. I think that it could be a situation similar to last year where if it Bo takes down Dean, they give the upper classmen bump to Zain with the caveat "Well...he technically should have won it last year. You have two more chances, young man (Bo). Try again next year."

I think it depends on whether they weigh the past performance criteria heavier than the knocking off the favorite. One is a criteria of the Hodge, one is not.

Absolutely, knocking off the favorite is part of the criteria. It's called dominance, and winning against a 2-time NC is a big deal.

Bo is absolutely on a mission. One problem is that there is Dean and Bo and then such a massive gap to the rest of the field at 184, that there is no one to push him hard before he meets Dean.

The Hodge Trophy is won by vote. When there are more than one candidate that stands out, it's inevitable that some partisanship creeps in. I believe there's 4 or so kids, still in the running.

Maybe I shouldn't have said nil but it would be tough to pass up a 3 time champion with 1 career loss and a 2 time champion with almost as dominant a season. And even with his lack of matches, Snyder has a shot but I would hope Nickal would pass him. Its nice to have the debate though with 2 of our guys in contention. (Nolf, I think, being 5th on the list...)

So we just need Cenzo to take out iMar to clear the path for either of the 2 PSUers... sounds like a plan to me!

Speaking of that spladle . . . did anyone else notice how careful and methodical Brooks was last night when trying to execute that same low-single on Martin? It's not funny, really, but I couldn't help but smile a little while watching it.

Yeah, Bo really has no shot at the Hodge, because he will never even get the chance to beat Dean at Nationals . . .

You know, because McRib is going to break Dean in half and then pin him in the quarters.
Round of 16, said PD2.

Snyder will be pretty far down the line -- he simply doesn't wrestle enough matches. Said the ol' coach: half of winning is just showing up.

His fellow Olympian Cox checks most of the boxes. Senior, likely 3x champ, undefeated this year. He's not scoring enough to be put ahead of Dean, Zain, Bo, Jason, Martinez (IMO) -- but he's ahead of Snyder.

I don't think Zain, IMar, Snyder will get close to it because the committee will figure "lets just wait a year". This is an insanely deep class and they will take the easier road of looking at the undefeated Seniors first. BoBo and Jason will be even more overlooked because of this.

It's Dean or Cox this year. If both lose, I could see a situation where Snyder/IMar/Zain take it over Gilman because they have a title already.

Snyder and Zain are the best overall wrestlers right now. But the Hodge doesn't care about that as much as it should.

Same Gabe Dean who stalled the entire final minute in his freestyle match against Bo Nickal, in 2014? That Gabe Dean?

You're right, I completely forgot about Cox.

Just for information...It's not really a committee, but a group of 42 or so independent voters, many past champions, along with some media. They don't "get together", but vote separately for their top 4 choices, marked 1st choice, 2nd choice, etc. The scoring system has been; 4 points for each 1st place vote, 3 for 2nd, 2 for 3rd, and 1 for 4th. Highest points win. No committee with a show of hands, formal discussions, etc...nothing like that. Oh, and the "public", or fans, for the past several years (since 2012), has had 2 votes.

I agree it's Dean's to lose, but I personally feel Zain is in front of Cox.
