remember this Saints meltdown. 2 passes 75 yards and the go ahead TD w 45 secs left
Isn't a play dead when a player intentionally goes down? I mean, it is when a QB slides without being touched.
If the Texans DB doesn’t touch him down, the game ends as they wouldn’t have been able to call TO

I think you might be right but I can't cite to a rule. But I think if a player willingly gives himself up, he's down and the play is over. But hopefully someone will provide a rule to be certain.
But didn’t he catch it while going to the ground ? It wasn’t like he was running and gave himself up

If Saints play prevent they prob don’t need a 58 yard FG to win.Well, this didn't age well.
I just watched it again. It’s a bit of a low pass, but I’d say he catches it and drops to the ground anyway. Not sure that it matters If I'm right about the rule and he gives himself up, either while already on the ground when he catches it or he goes immediately to the ground after catching it, then he's down.
Dead Ball Declared. An official shall declare the ball dead and the down ended:
when a runner is out of bounds, or declares himself down by falling to the ground, or kneeling, and making no effort to advance
