The Revenant..........................movie review, per NPR

Couldn't agree more. (I saw Star Wars and was very disappointed.) This is the movie that I really can't wait to see.

It wasn't so slow: Man In The Wilderness with Richard Harris from 1971, was the original.

The Mountain Men.

Oh, so this is that dicrapio movie, no thanks, his movies are banned in my home.

LOL. Really? Why? He's a very good actor and has really challenged himself with roles when he could have had a career being the male Kate Hudson. He's not my favorite by any stretch, but I always like his work and felt he's been robbed on a couple of occasions at the Oscars (robbed in 2005 when his performance for The Aviator lost out to Jaime Foxx's performance in Ray). If you've never seen This Boy's Life with DiCaprio and De Nero do yourself a favor and check it out. The sequence when De Niro (his stepfather) shoves DiCaprio's face into a jar of mustard is really well done and feels 'real'. The hell De Niro puts this kid through all the while playing best husband ever with DiCaprio's mom will make you squirm.

That said, I'm dying to see this film.

I "hate" movies like Star Wars or Lord of the Rings. Would much prefer the "enjoyment and entertainment" from watching My Left Foot or The Notebook. But, maybe that's just me :) NOT.

His demanding that people live poorer, that poor countries not be allowed to develop (meaning many will die or have shortened lives), all the while he travels in a private jet from his many mansions, when he is not going it his mega yacht sours me on anything he does.

Ah, okay. Would be hard to enjoy many things in life if one isn't able to separate the personal lives of entertainers, celebrities, etc. from their work.

Yep, Leo will have all the money and fame he can ever want regardless of what I do, so the only person I'd be punishing is myself by missing out on so much great entertainment.

IMHO, it's dumb to post a review of this film at this time. It's currently showing at 4 theaters in the USA (2 in NYC and 2 in LA) -- just enough to qualify it for consideration by the major awards.

I've been fortunate enough to attend a number of previews over the years, and always refrained from posting reviews of such on this board until such time as the respective films appeared nationally.

Son of Saul is in its 2nd week of limited release (also in 4 theaters). From the advance reviews I've read, it's a far more consequential movie than is Revenant, though probably much less entertaining.

My holiday week is getting pretty busy, but I hope to take in Joy, Concussion, and The Big Short over the holidays, and will post reviews of each if I do get to them.

Spoiler Alert on the Big Short - Margot Robbie drinking Champagne while lolling in a bathtub

I'm not sure I follow. If I've already seen a movie, then the review isn't too much good to me, I've already drawn my own conclusions. So I'm generally most interested in reviews for films I've not yet seen. Which would mean a review of a movie not yet released is of more value to me than a review of a movie after it's been released and I've already potentially seen it. Therefore I'd prefer you did post those reviews when you get a chance to preview them, thus giving me a better shot to avoid them if they're not worth the time/cost.

What's up with all these survivalist movies....this piece of crab that you linked along with the Hatefull Eight and seemingly many others. It appears that the era of "chick flicks" is ending.
I watched The Revenant and The Hateful 8 this weekend. Both movies are over 2.5 hours long, and both should have been trimmed down to only 2, IMO. The first 50 minutes of The Revenant are INTENSE! I actually stopped watching it for the night and picked it up again the next day. The directing in both is/was amazing, and I enjoyed both films.

Semi Spoiler Alert in regards to Hateful 8:

Channing Tatum makes his first appearance with about an hour left in the film and seems completely out of place. The acting performances by some of the Tarantino film vets such as Sam Jackson, Kurt Russell, Tim Roth, as well as Jennifer Jason Leigh, Walter Goggins, and Demian Bichir are all TOP NOTCH, but then you have Channing Tatum trying to deliver lines with an ATROCIOUS accent and wooden acting. It kind of took me out of the film; however, I do recommend both films. The dialogue in Hateful 8 is distinctly Tarantino, and it's filled with the violence/gore/shock that most of his films have contained.

LOL. Something tells me that's not even close to what DiCaprio thinks.

Am catching The Big Short on Wednesday afternoon - looks great! Also, heard Joy is awful. Like, really awful.

Exactly. How many people boycott Tom Cruise movies or John Travolta movies due to their affiliation with Scientology. Heck. If all the GAY HATERS out there knew how many people in the movie business were gay, they'd never see a movie

Let me try to clarify my thoughts a bit.

I don't get to see many previews. When I do, I get to see them on Tues. or Wed. of the week when they are set for broad release.

In situations like that, if I think a movie is worthy of a review, I'll write up the review but not post it until Friday -- the day when folks can actually go see it. That still gives you enough time to make up your mind as to whether you want to go see the movie.

As it is, I only go to a handful of previews a year, so it's not as though I even have the option to post early reviews all that frequently.

In the situation in this thread, Felli is posting a review written by someone else for a film that is currently showing in only 2 cities, and 4 theaters, in the USA. I think it's bad form to post a review for such a film, when most on this board have no chance to see the film at this time.

It did not help that in his post Felli put down The Force Awakens discussion, and also stated that "The Revenant is the MUST see movie of the year" -- something I seriously doubt he can claim since he's yet to actually see The Revenant.

Presumably you didn't care for my Star Wars reaction on Tuesday of the week it came out then.
