That was the goal line run by McSorely where Barkley led the sweep, faked a block and was wide open for the toss from Trace.

You're telling me that in over a month the staff can't come up with a play.....ONE PLAY.....to use on a 3rd and 4 that wins the game?

ONE PLAY TO WIN THE GAME!

What's your point?

yeah...but we scored like...a ton of points. so there's that.

Franklin was quoted as saying that the prolonged preparation time often tempts coaches to lose sight of what got them there by changing things up to much. Considering how, many points they scored, that doesn't seem to have been the issue.

You add a few wrinkles to your play calling but that's it..and you don't always use them based on what you see from the defense and your match ups. You don't throw out what worked all year, hence wrinkles.

We actually ran that play once, maybe twice this year. Would have been nice to see that in the 4th quarter.

Wasn't that the first time it's been run all season?

My question-- when you don't get the first down on second and whatever and less than 30 seconds to go, don't you play for OT? SC is out of timeouts so you can run the clock out.

I thought there was like 1:40 maybe 1:30 to go. You couldn't run out the clock

Yes it was. IL is thinking about the play where TM gets the snap and instead of the read option shuffles it to SB beside him. The play today TM takes the snap and runs laterally with SB to the outside who keeps pitch distance and got the pitch. Different play from the first one which we did run 2-3 times early this season.

Yes, you run it and if you don't get the first, you are in OT.

They snapped the ball with something like :40 left when they threw the final INT. USC had :27 when they lined up on offense IIRC. PSU could have run when the pass wasn't open and let the clock run out without punting. USC had no timeouts left.

We scored 49 pts against a top 20 caliber defense....hard to be critical of the offense even with some of the miscues and mistakes.

I think there was 38 or so seconds remaining when he threw the INT at the end of the game. Definitely could have run out the clock.
The low percentage pass attempt at the end reminded me of the interception (another low percentage play) at the Pitt game when PSU could have played to kick a field goal and put the game into OT.

I thought the last Barkley TD where Trace looked like he was gonna run it and then tossed it to him in the endzone was new. Or if it wasn't, it looked like a new wrinkle.

Sounds like they didn't use any of the plays you sent them. Sorry to hear.

That was the play I pointed out (above) that was the only new play in the game.

The run defense was pretty good only gave up 122 yards. Pass defense not so much 453 yards and five touchdowns. Many times Dbacks not even looking for the ball.
