THIS IS WHY YOU STOP FOR SCHOOL BUSSES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

1. Is that even a school bus? GREEN?

2. This was the kids fault. They hung out for a few seconds and then ran BEHIND the bus as it was pulling away.

It's in Norway.

Cars don't stop for school busses in Norway???

I doubt it is a school bus. Likely just public transportation. The bus was already moving before the kids crossed.

The U.S. might be a bit unique in having dedicate school buses, flashing lights, laws about passing them, etc.

Watch the video. Opposing cars did NOT stop.

I don't know that it is a school bus. It could simply be a regional bus. There are also no red flashers or stop sign on the bus that you would see in the USA.

Your point is moot because the bus already started to pull away.

Yep. Looks like a commercial bus to me. And where's the flashing red lights? Notice a car passed the bus before the truck. A Latvian truck driver. Maybe there's no standard for this throughout Europe.

Well, according to ABC NEWS, it's a school bus. http://abc13.com/near-hit-child-walks-into-path-of-big-rig-truck-/2641242/

GOL, Norway (KTRK) --
A child who had just gotten off a school bus is seen in dashcam footage getting nearly hit by a passing big-rig truck.

The heart-stopping near-disaster happened in Norway back in June, according to a report by news agency NRK.

The bus is seen stopped on the side of the road and four children deboard. Just as the bus takes off, two of the children try to cross the highway.

One of them, a boy, is in the path of the truck, which brakes hard to avoid the child.

The boy moves across the truck and then forward as the braking takes place.

No one was hurt from the incident.

We recently moved to a new house. The street is somewhat of a cut through during rush hour. So far two separate aholes have whipped around the bus, with lights flashing, as my kids are boarding. I now carry a baseball to the bus, and the next one will get a 2 seamer in the back window.

A gopro or even your cell phone's video camera would be more effective than a baseball. just my .02

Well do Norway traffic laws dictate that opposing traffic must stop for school busses?

So you see this video and think first about fault-finding with grade-schoolers? You moron. You slow down because it’s the right thing to do, not because it’s legislated.

Carry a bat also.

Reddit has a pretty good thread on this. A few Norway citizens have piped in. They indicate that school buses in Norway look the same as regular buses, but when transporting students they usually stop in busstop pockets. In this video, there isn't a busstop pocket, as there doesn't appear to be room for one. One of the Norway citizens also indicated that in Norway, there is no regulation for cars driving in the opposite direction to stop when a bus is stopped.

Just passing along what I read in the Reddit thread

School bus rules put our kids in danger and teach horrendous habits. There is a bus stop at my house and the kids always get off and run around the back of the bus into the street without looking. They are being taught bad habits. They should be forced to stay at the bus stop until the bus leaves then cross the streets like they did to get there.

When I was a kinder in Deutschland, regular tour buses were leased to transport school kids.

It's situations like this that caused me to get a dash cam. Too many situations where a video will provide all the proof one needs.
What golf course is that, 'Ro? Looks like somewhere in Arizona to me.

We were always made to cross in front of the bus, obviously before it left.

That used to be SOP before a bus driver thought it was clear and ran over a child he/she couldn't see over the hood. Now they have a bar/gate that swings out so kids don't walk in front of the bus.

They're still to walk in front. The gate forces them to walk further out in front of the bus so the driver can see them.

Yeah, re-thought what I typed after I saw this happen this morning. You are correct ... the bar/gate just makes them walk more in the driver's field of view when crossing in front of the bus.
